Perhaps the community was big enough to dilute personal conflicts. There would be lots of pro and against voices and wouldn’t be just a conflict between 3-4 people. I could be wrong tho

I played against quite a few people.
Unfortunately not against too many of the ppl that are active and rowdy now, back then they weren’t vocal and flew way under the radar.

Still must have been some other factors. Maybe before people were more excited about the games future and there was an overall positive vibe. Also, before we could talk about more topics and people would gel over other things besides the game.
Maybe it’s more of, that things fell new in the past and it was fun, but now after a few cycles of same old, it’s not as fun anymore
