Difficulty options in hard games

Back at it with this again

An idiot on Twitter brought the contraversy back up again and I want to argue

So people who think video games should have easy modes make your argument

No.
No more discussions.
You betrayed our friendship.

At least partially

i believe it is ALWAYS better to simply have a developer intended difficulty see every nintendo game ever

Ugh I agree with these other people.

it can help reach a larger demographic and earn more money, Casual players make up most gamers. I mean dare i say that the souls series is even pretty casual outside of pvp its not the hardest series to play. It just takes patience unless your a sweaty speed running no damage player

A. Niche market

B. Adding difficulty modes would remove these games as a medal

Add on top of that hey already have games aimed at them

C. Easy modes will either be awfully designed or redundant

A. High diff is the Niche, most gamers are casual
B. DMC series did it and playing its hardest difficulty was still considered a medal
C. Thats subjective

Anyway moral of the story is options dont drive people away they draw people in

PS who tf boasts about beating a game

If only hard games were designed well. Most of the time they cheap out and go for bullet sponge bosses that one hit kill you. Terrible game design. Difficulty should be making the AI more intelligent, narrowing down the timing etc. If a game is only difficult because of enemies with a huge health bar and damage output then just put in an easy mode because that shit is boring to play anyway and at least that way it’ll make the game tolerable.

i agree, my opinion is that the most fun difficulty is in pvp

I’m the opposite with that one. Mostly due to the fact that most of the time it’s broken as hell. PvP is a tough one to crack and always results in under/overpowered weapons, poor matchmaking putting day one Timmy up against no life Larry, and sometimes terrible hit detection and similar stuff. If those things weren’t as common as they were I would agree with you. It is a lot harder to outsmart a real person more than it is an AI with patterns. But alas, too often do those things bring it down.

the imbalance is just part of the pvp dance man you adapt to it or you dont. match making is solved with skill based MM if the community is big enough. Hit detection is just another one of those things you need to adapt too. i mean the difficulty of player prediction is also a large part of the fun. Thats why the difficulty is better in pvp imo because its so dynamic, just my opinion

Me personally I’d rather play PvE than PvP just because there’s more things that can go wrong with PvP than there would be for PvE.

As for SBMM it’s a very mixed one. Some Devs seem scared of adding that to games because of backlash because of people saying “I don’t want to be put in sweaty games!” Which I don’t understand that argument. But that’s a topic for another day. And on the games that do have it or try it, it’s a mixed bag. DBD tried it recently. It was abysmal. But if most Devs decided to stop being afraid of backlash against it and implement it in their games and implement it well then it’ll definitely be a step in the right detection. But then you still have those other problems I mentioned. Too many variables when it comes to this and from my experience most of the time they just aren’t done well.

However I do agree the PvP dynamic is much more engaging than the PvE dynamic when they’re both at their peak. But not very often is this the case. Even PvE with the problems I’ve mentioned for that is the same where it’s common, I just find it slightly more tolerable imo.

i just cant do pve high diff because its usually boring like what you were mentioning earlier with bullt sponges and on hit bosses, DMC did it well imo since alot of it is timing and prediction

Yeah I get that. It’s one of the things I hate the most about PvE because it’s such a cheap cop out and so many Devs do it. It’s not rewarding beaten them either it’s an absolute slog. I personally like Ghost of Tsushima’s Lethal difficulty a lot. You die in like 1-2 hits but so do most of the enemies plus they’re more aggressive and the timing for parries is tighter. It’s so rewarding and that’s how hard difficulties for PvE should be done. Guess we’re just opposite sides of the coins for which we find more tolerable on this one.

Yes exactly

Unless you want to say the niche market shouldn’t be catered too

DMC is known for its combo’s and rank system

Even if it’s difficult it’s not as big of a medal as DS

No it’s not. It’s called quality

Even if you don’t agree in objective quality there’s still some sort of logic you use when making a game.

Ah yes that’s why people are against difficulty modes

Wait what

You don’t even understand the DS community

Well ya but that’s quality not difficulty
