Difficulty options in hard games

you realise people who dont want all of that stuff you hate about easy-mode dont need to participate in it if its a selectable option which ive been saying, medal thing is meh i mean its not that hard to beat DS you just need patience and tbh its not much of an accomplishment ive never gone around like yeah bitches i beat all the souls games BOIII i got max characters BOIIII

You don’t release bad gameplay period

Especially when it’s the games job to push you into the gameplay loop

If they don’t want that they can su a different game actually designed to be played on easy mode

There are things in the world that ​are poorly made

A rickity chair that falls apart when you sit on it brand new is awefully made

The same is true for games and movies unless you want to argue that a 4 hour film of a brick wall is on par with the lord of the rings

Even if we ignore that these games are designed to give a specific experience and as such they need to force that experience

And even if we say games need to be as open as possible which doesn’t make sense, there’s still the target market and the target market doesn’t want easy modes

If you say no to all of those then I want a massacre mode in animal crossing since there’s no sense or reason to any design choice

not once did i claim that about DS i was claiming that DS wasnt really that hard to begin with, im saying games that are stupidly hard are usually artificially hard because of bullet sponges and one hit enemies, again the souls series only needs patience and memory to win

Games should have a default intended experience, or at the bare minimum say “this is the intended difficulty” and then present extras as a sort of new game+, think Shadow of War where Nemesis mode is intended for the nemesis system because YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DIE. then the additional modes were basically new game + modifiers. People aren’t experiencing the full game if they just slide everything to very easy and just steamroll. Making easy mode cheat codes is just lazy, THATS unironically where the real artifical difficulty comes from because the difficulty sliders just move damage and hp around. I could play everything on easy because all the other settings are just artificial. If you’re making mistakes but you’re godmode is on whats the point?

I don’t think shadow of war benefited from having piss easy difficulties available (though it atleast still hurt xp and orc rarity levels) and you want find the difficulty where you still die in intense situations but not where you die constantly.
Very important in games tagged as difficult because dying is part of the game. The hollow/soul system is part of the gameplay loop.
I made the mistake of playing death stranding on ““normal.”” like welp im sure these enemies will get harder eventually - no. death is supposed to be a mechanic…how do you even die in death stranding on normal

not comparable. The things you said would make the game boring alot of others find fun and just not a small niche group and no adding extra difficulties while still keeping the hard mode doesn’t take anything away from the niche group since nothing is taken out only added in.

so where is the loss here hardcore sweaties get the hard the casuals get easy and normal. Honestly this whole time its like your fighting to keep something thats not getting taken away. I could understand your extreme zeal if we were saying take out hard and just have easy

No, this is definitely not how high difficulties should be done.
Cause lethal in ghost is too fucking easy.

People love to complain about bullet sponges, but that’s just they dont like long fights.

If I’m fighting minions, then ya, I dont want them to have an immense amount of health.

But if I’m fighting a boss?
Then yes, give them a lot of hp.
Those long fights are fun and rewarding.
The same thing with bosses having one shots.
That’s how it’s supposed to be.

Maybe not for every boss, but definitely for the final boss, a few special, or hidden bosses, hell even some rare special enemies.

Short fights are typically boring as hell.

But it depends on how the boss with a lot of health is designed as well.
Cause some can be stupid and boring.
But simply high health?

most games that have really high difficulty choices will award a trophy for it which is the medal you love so much
