Until COVID, Asians in USA have really been under the radar it feels like. There is talk about china’s human rights policies from time to time, but it’s not like the Chinese folk here are at the forefront of it.

It’s usually some characteristic/quality of the people that is used as a slur. For Japanese, perhaps it doesn’t have that, but the term still coincides with the WW2 period and internment camps so it still holds a negative connotation even if the term itself doesn’t flash that out.

Since this thread is going to sheet, i got a med question for you. We get cholesterol from diet and liver makes it as well. I’d assume that this is regulated, that if enough cholesterol is received from diet, liver will not make any more from other components of diet (trans fats for one). So the only way, other that some defect of metabolism, to have hypercholesterolemia is to consume more cholesterol than what needed, that even the liver can take a day off from making more. The question relates to ability to control cholesterol with diet, that if the threshold of need is not reached from diet and liver produces more to reach that threshold (norm), lab results won’t show hypercholesterolemia.

Im sure it was bordering racism and discrimination at the time and the term was potent back then. Just because it’s not potent now, doesn’t mean that it’s not a slur.

I bet you get along with most people in your life. Forums is not a reflection of that because here people can alter their personalities a bit.
