Iād heard Toho bought the character and changed it for the 04 film G final wars (which sucked). He died there too. I still enjoy the 98 movie. Itās a very handsome design and it answered a lot of ridiculous questions from the Showa Era that Toho just never answered. Itās better than half of the Showa films and half of the Heisei Era films. So many of those ones were just so preposterous, I wonder what kind of drugs the writers were on. (God)Zilla got some redemption in the Godzilla: Rulers of Earth comics series. And Matt Frank just nails the art every single time. Zilla is also the only reason to play Godzilla Generations on Dreamcast.
The sequel animated series was excellent. Far superior to the live action film, but they really do go hand in hand. Despite how my friends and I felt about the movie as a whole, I donāt know a single person that wasnāt sad when he died. But itās not so bad, the OG Godzilla dies in the first film and has been killed or lost battles numerous times, like to baby Mothras. He lost to infant worms. Iād have given anything to work on that 98 movie though. They built a 30 ft animatronic Godzilla from the chest up. They also did have a guy in a suit and made life sized puppets of the hatchlings. That wouldāve been fun.

Thatās cuz fools remain butthurt. The anime movies and show were awful and boring. And I stand by my position that 98 was better than half of the Showa and Heisei films. There were some Stiiiiiinkers in there. And itās better than Final Warsā¦ by a lot. The rest of the Millenium series was the bees knees though. Top notch. For my $, the OG, KKvG, 1985, 2000, GMK and GvK are the best ones. 98 falls right in the middle. People really need to lighten up. Itās not like it was The Predator or Ghostbusters 2016.
Final wars was goated fym it sucked, G-man literally beating up Kaiju most of the movie. Not a real Godzilla fan, I declare it here and now! You must only like the movies I say you can!
Ummā¦ please redo that first sentence. I donāt understand what you meant. And he spent like 2 mins on each monster. Lame. 3 hr movie, 1/2 he of Godzilla. I call BS. I own every single film and Iām close to tracking down the Hannah Barbera show. Iām just honest and as objective about each one as I can be. Thatās the only way to not be a douche about stuff. Now, like Ghostbusters 2016 and The Predator, etc, some stuff is really so bad it should be forgotten, but itās rare when I canāt find SOMETHING to enjoy in a film.

Think of it as an alternate universe, like the difference between Showa, Heisei, Millenium, animated and Shin versions. Like Spiderverse, but with Godzilla. Would you throw out Spiderman 2099, Spider-Gwen or Spiderman Noir? No, you wouldnāt, unless youāre a turd.
I contend that the 98 gilm was closer to the OG than Shin and both anime versions. Better than them too.
Aside from the OG and 1985, the main thing a kaiju film should be is fun, and it has that in droves.

Bruhā¦ fuckin Space Godzilla. Baby Godzilla. The Dorats. The time traveling Futurians. Sure, the fights were fun, but basically anything involving human characters was beyond stupid. And you know it.

Well, then call me a rebel. An army of one, cuz 98 is better than half of the 1st 2 eras, better than both animes and better than Hannah Barberaās version.
As a kaiju movie, yeah, but not as a Godzilla movie.
