Giving Predator tech to FT? OFFICIAL POLL

Edit: Ok the community has spoken
Predator tech to hoomans? Nope!
Thank you everybody
Devs please keep this in mind. We appreciate your work with the story so far! @Courier

Testing the waters
Since the devs heavily hinted that some type of predator-derived equipment will probably be coming to the FT, I thought I’d ask the community how we feel
You can probably guess what I’d vote, now let’s find out what the trend is!

  • Yes give predator weapons/gear to FT
  • Ok, but only as cosmetics
  • Fuck Shane Black

Characters used Predator gear long before the Shane Black film but alright.

I think you get the gist. That option is for ppl who wouldn’t like the game going in that direction, getting that type of atmosphere shift etc

When Dutch was announced I thought he
would be a hero character and would come with a piece of tech. In this instance I would have supported it but the whole FT?

Ok, as long as Predators can use the sniper rifles and machine guns…

Seriously, what’s the point in having two distinct player categories if you’re going to start giving them the attributes/weapons of the other side.

It’s fairly common in the universe’s EU to the point that was largely the plot of Concrete Jungle back in 2005.

I wouldn’t be for the FT getting a Predator Killer but there has been more than enough instances of Humans in the films using Predator weapons and tech that by this point it’s more than justified even ignoring Shane Black.

Forget what has or hasn’t in comics/books etc. This game is (supposedly) about recreating the dynamic of the first film - an advanced alien hunter picking off elite human soldiers. Creating a situation where the FT has access to the same kind of weaponry and tech as the Pred will not only detract from the narrative, it will mess up the game mechanics even further.

Of course, why the FT would want to use the likes of the Plasma-based weapons or smart disc is beyond me anyway, given that the FT weapons are far more user friendly and have instantaneous hit mechanics.

Far more of a problem would be the Preds being allowed to use sniper rifles and machine guns.

It should be obvious to everyone that the reason each side has the kind of weapons it has is to help balance out the overt strength, speed, mobility and stealth advantages the Pred has.

I hope Illfonic is takeing notes right now…

Harrigan used the disc, wich he kindoff found (that would be acceptible in match, and that should be the ONLY weapon able to parry Preds attacks) No one else used any pred tech.

  • Harrigan used the disk
  • Noland had a helmet, armor as well as a rifle.
  • Lex used a spear fashioned by Scar and briefly his own spear
  • The survivors in Requiem used Wolf’s pistol

Even barring Shane Black four of the five films have instances of characters using Predator tech or weapons.

Dude… I understand you had a tough childhood… but for Sweet Baby Jesus Christ goodness sakes in blue heavens not every one had! I grew up on proper 80’s action movies so please don’t go AVP/AVPR bullshit on me. Also, not everyone considers Predators as canon, as it’s a soft reboot of the first movie, and director stated its trying to erase second movie from timeline (bad move as Pred2 is 100% better and will always remain canon) so Harrigan used the disc as a last resort – end of story. That’s canon.

In Stalking Shadows, the official prequel novel for this game, Dutch has a wrist mounted plasma cannon @Kalypsio has read it thoroughly, and will better explain what it is. But it’s probably going to be implemented at some point…

And yeah, Fuck Shane Black and that movie.

Those were mostly “in the moment” usage. But for FT to have Predator tech at their disposal and as a weapon/gear choice sounds lame.

Exaclty my point. That 2018 “movie” was the first one to feature/forecast extensive/organized use of yautja tech. All of the previous movies, including AVP, showed some type of predator tool being used by humans only as improvised/last resort stuff. Noland was…well he was never a threat was he.

The point is, if you instead give an organized team of elite soldiers/mercenaries advanced alien equipment, which they strategically bring to the battle and train with, they become equal (or in this game better cause it’s already FT hunting grounds) to the Predator, hence killing much of the “asymmetrical” spirit of the original concept of both the first movies and this game

No need to be a dick about it.

He’d seen too much shit🤣

In the novel at the end. Dutch shows up with a wrist mounted plasma caster that has a pressure pad on his palm. He taps the pad to fire the caster much like Spider-Man and his Webcasters. The OWLF adapted it to him from previously captured tech which is why they send him and Havana after “The Hunters” where as Stargazer is a rogue mercenary group that hunts the Yautja to capture the tech and sell it on the black market.

In my opinion, predator tech should stay with pred and fire team tech with fire team. Don’t mix them for this game.

Well your opinion goes against the lore, so that means you are wrong. Plasma caster is fair game for Fireteam according to the novel leading to this game.
