Oh, you aren’t wrong at all. What Dougherty set up in KOTM was brilliant, and while more fantastical than the “grounded in reality” feeling 14 and KSI brought, it wasn’t so incredibly farfetched. GvK took all the out-there concepts that made the Showa era bad (or good, if you’re a boomer) and just slapped a CGI budget on it. I will say GvK did a lot of great things, at least in terms of cinematics, scale, and personality development for the monsters. But the script, human narrative, and yes especially the world building, fell very flat.
GODZILLA (and other kaiju)
Nah, Toho has expressed a lot of happiness with how the character has been portrayed so far. The deal they set up in 2012 expired, obviously, but the option to renew was there, and obviously discussions were happening. The Apple+ series and this new announcement confirms things have been renewed (plus all the MV merchandise like the new figures that are now coming out). But yes, definitely no complaints, I’m very happy to see it moving forward.
So many people were hating on Wingard when he was announced. Then the trailer FINALLY hit, and people kind of shut up about him lol. He has an eye for things, and certainly had some amazing shots in GvK, but yes he was the weakest, of the four, actually, don’t forget Jordan Vogt-Roberts and his AMAZING work on Kong: Skull Island. I would have loved to have seen Gareth stay with the franchise, but Star Wars won him over. I feel Dougherty did a tremendous job though, he is a legitimate fan, and has a very dark sense of humor as seen in his other films, and that translated well into KOTM. Plus his fascination with old-time myths and legends and ancient civilizations, he used all of that to create this spellbinding lore within the universe. Then Wingard came and kind of mucked it up a little. But the Hollow Earth theory was mentioned several times in the films, so this was obviously their plan from the start. But I’m not sure the execution was proper.
And bring the God of War guy back for the soundtrack. Makes a huge difference when these actually feel like ancient myths fighting. Whereas GvK was a silly contrived boxing match aside from Godzilla destroying the carriers & we got to hear his G14 theme again. Not enough military intervention either. Hollow Earth was just a big empty map with 3 snakes and some statues in GvK wtf was he thinking. Def hope we get Dougherty back to set up what he had planned.
Bear McCreary, yeah. He was a beast on that score, from his arrangement of Godzilla’s Theme, to how he composed Ghidorah’s Theme.
This is a long read, but its worth it to learn how he created this score. How he imagine multiple Japanese taiko drums from the very beginning, creating Ghidorah’s theme based around multiples of three and adding in the prayer…oh its so good.
I liked the ancient war they were attempting to establish with Godzilla’s species and the Kongs. The novelization and comic book tie-ins dive deeper into it. But I feel like more could have been done to further expand upon it in the movie itself, maybe some flashbacks to a huge battle in the throne room, would have been a huge opportunity to use some easter egg models of Godzillas and Kongs. Dougherty definitely deserves another shot at the franchise, or Gareth if possible.
Hate it. Takes away the myth entirely when you try to establish that there’s a whole flock of rodans, mothras, and godzilla’s. Even if that ends up being like 10, it’s too many. Just keep it vague. And all that for a plot device powerup axe that’ll never be referenced again.
Too much explaination = bad.
You made that?!
He’s just mad cuz he didn’t want to read the book lol jk
I do to, it shows how G man is evolving into something bigger and badder, next movie king going to get wrecked lol
It’s just a pattern. We printed it with a cricut machine, peeled the unnecessary parts away and ironed it on.its not difficult, but it is time consuming.
I wanna see
Next one, I’ll take some pics of each step. Idk what I’m gonna do next. I have a bunch of ideas, all of which require lots of corrections in Illustrator before they can be printed at all. Also, it depends on availability of the proper color of vinyl for each design.
That poster Godzilla is one of the best. What’re y’all’s favorite Godzilla posters?
Well, I can’t “sell” copyrighted artwork, per se, but if someone sent me $ for the materials etc, I could print them up.
That design with my current equipment is impossible. We make simpler stencil-esque stuff, usually in one color. However, I have a Castle Grayskull shirt in mind that will be 2 or more colors, which requires multiple sheets of vinyl with their own images on them and then putting them on individually, so the cost rises. The shirts I use most often are cheap, like $7 nylon/poly blends, best for summer, but cotton is acceptable too.
Now IF there were a simpler B&W stencil of that poster, I could try it.
The process goes…
1.) Find an image(s) you want on a shirt and download it.
2.) Import the image into Illustrator and simplify it, hardening the edges. Make adjustments as necessary so the image looks its best. Eliminate tiny holes and lines by deleting or enlarging them enough that it won’t be too small to be cut and “weeded.”
3.) Import final image to Cricut programs and cut image via Cricut machine onto a sheet if Tshirt vinyl. The machine does all the hard stuff really.
4.) Take cut vinyl to hard surface and “weed” the unwanted vinyl. Weeding means removing any vinyl that isn’t a part of the pattern, usually picking tiny pieces off with a safety pin.
5.) Place on a t-shirt, sticky side down, cover with a sheet of special ironing paper (I forget it’s actual name) and iron. Not too much or it’ll melt, not too little or it won’t stick. It’s a balancing act. Basically once I can see the shirts stitching pattern through the vinyl, just a little, then it’s good.
6.) Remove paper and peel clear plastic off shirt slowly. Hang up shirt and let cool. Don’t wear or wash for 24 hrs. Wash on cold. Hang dry. Never in the dryer!
Oh I’ll just donate if you make a Godzilla t then
That’s it. My labor is useless 😉. I consider the labor a favor, just the materials cost $. If I find a way to make that poster or a reasonable facsimile of it, I’ll post it.
This was my first G shirt.
These were the rest, excluding the Mandalorian one I also just made. No pics of that one.
Man these are so good
They are “fairly” simple. Most are decal designs, just tweaked. And the fonts I already had from my other art nonsense. And the phrases I just made up, except the actual making it up one. That’s a quote. The predator one is 2 seperate decals, the pred and the skulls. I’ve never seen the punisher war zone skull on any shirt and you don’t see the red Thunderbolts symbols anywhere either, so I combined them.
