So ya this is a thing

Good idea for a sequel or should it just stay in our nightmares 😅

I…think it should stay right where it is lol. It is pretty neat though.

Cool there was also this? Lol see what I did there 😂

Ultimately what exactly Godzilla is to everyone, is very interchangeable and fluid in theory because everyone and their mom has preconceived notions of what Godzilla is. What Godzilla should be. What Godzilla symbolises. What Godzilla Eats, Drinks, Shits, Fucks? You get the point.

So while I think that nearly every interpretation is valid, I personally have an issue with how Toho wants to present Godzilla these days.

Back in 2016, Shin-Gojira was a hit. The “unfeeling” and “emotionless” force of nature that had a blank face and no real motivation for their actions other than vaguely animalistic mannerisms. It worked for Shin. But then Toho did it again with Godzilla Earth who can be described as a Eco-Terroristic sperg who’s sichzo sigma male energy leaked so hard he reproduced via mitosis. Earth Movies were shit, with Ghidorah being the coolest one there and Godzilla was…okay. Earth remains the biggest because that definitely was necessary for the plot and not for the easy headlines and that the emotionless Godzilla is amazing even if he literally has no character besides “MaChInE bAd”. Moving slowly as a set piece from place to place, he serves as a plot device, but while Godzillas are most definitely plot devices with character, Earth was simply the device and nothing more.

And then they did it again with Singular Point with this Godzilla who is literally who Darkseid wishes he was and tries to collapse the universe for no reason other than the fact that he probably thinks it’s funny. This Godzilla literally uses bastardized forms of other Toho Kaiju that haven’t been given attention in years like Titano and they’re like “woah, this this cool huh?”

And now with Monsterverse, Toho wanted Godzilla to be this schizophrenic addled bear who attacked for no reason despite showing restraint from such things in 2019, and only conceded by giving him a moment where he chuckles like some edgy anime antagonist after wasting all of his energy when his target was right in front of him because there was a monkey with a axe and he suddenly is extremely racist.

And this is after he deliberately saves the planet from a giggling space dragon that he literally beat before, saving the planet, before. And then he proceeds to blast a hole straight into the earth to be a racist? Fuck GvK and anyone who thinks it’s better than GKOTM.

What I’m trying to say here, is that while Godzilla has many valid interpretations, there is certainly a problem with how Godzilla is being handled these days.

This entire post was probably the most intelligent thing I’ve read in this entire thread (except the racist part. Wut.)

Yes. However. The Kong-side of the human story was pretty cool, and they did a fantastic job with Kong as a whole overall. And they made Godzilla absolutely vicious after that axe strike, effectively putting to rest the Kong v. Godzilla debate. I read spoilers for that scene leading up to release, and finally seeing it, it was so good, as a fan. Godzilla, whom so far has been like, “ok dude, you’re annoying, fuck off” was finally done with Kong’s bullshit. Seeing monke in tears of absolute fear because my boy was literally curbstomping him, best part for me.

BIG DRAGON DINOSAUR BETTER THAN MONKE

Even though monke older and more culturally recognized.

BIG DRAGON DINOSAUR STILL BETTER

Godzilla fighting Kong is… racist now? Science tap-dancing Logic, W.T.F?!? Then how is him fighting every other titan also not racist? That’s the dumbest thing I think I’ve ever heard in a thread about fake giant monsters. Science, I hope that was a hard trolling and I just fell for it. Nobody could be that stupid, right?

Also, I unabashedly love GvK just as much as KOTM, maybe 2% more. Its more fun, but ridiculous. And it gets right to the point. I love that. And no preaching! Yay!

Whoever thinks Godzilla fighting Kong is racist, is the racist hahaha, because they are comparing a race to an ape/monkey. Yeah I agree with your GvK opinion too

I will actually disagree with the Kong part. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Kong’s chracter in Skull Island. I even think it’s objectively best Monsterverse Film easily. But Kong becomes so bitch made in GvK for absolutely no reason both Characterization and Lore wise. Skull Island is practically destoryed for no fucking reason and is never explained unless you read that Prequel comic, Kong is treated as some kind of solution to the problem of Godzilla as he is drugged, chained, and forcibly shipped across the seas just for Godzilla to pointlessly resume his racist gang war against Kong for no reason other than to say: "I’m so bad now hahaha look at my red eyes, aren’t I so bad guys?

As for the racist thing, Godzilla has canonically, in the dogshit GvK Lore that Legendary would have you believe, waged a mostly 1 man army crusade against the Kongs, wiping them most out, and then teamed up with other Godzillas, Mothra, and Kongs to fight some kind of Godzilla in the sky with wings? Main thing is that the Iwi, from Jia’s history say that Godzilla way back when ate some blue space rock and that’s how he became Godzilla when that makes absolutely no sense and describe that Godzilla v Kongs war, shit, you can even see a bit of this in the Dominion Comic.

(Side Tangent lol: let’s say that the Iwi were right and Godzilla rose to power with some stupid blue space rock. This would mean that Serizawa is a projecting nerd who was never close to Godzilla in the first place as their shared event would ultimately be extra meaningless if Godzilla was already some kind of super powered Titan. Plus we have Dagon who never used his Atomic Breath and was kind of a only Godzilla thing until that stupid flying godzilla set piece that was never used in GvK)

Back to my main rant, Kong isn’t even that important unless you see how he is used as a unwilling pawn for his Monarch handlers who think teaming with Apex was a great idea both as a lap dog who they emotionally manipulate into going into HE saying “oh, maybe your family’s there lol”, or as a discount attack dog as literally every single fight Kong gets in this movie, he loses or is about to lose. He almost dies to the Warbats. He literally has his heart give out vs Godzilla, and for some fucking reason stood a chance vs Mechagodzilla because his axe made MG look like he was made out of thin air for some reason, sweeping him down with a simple strike of the axe. Kong killing Mechagodzilla is cool, but it is completely, positively, undoubtedly, unearned and forced to throw stalty Kong fans a bone for how contrived this entire film’s plot is.

And again, this film wants you to root for Kong when canonically, when Godzilla was, I dunno, saving the word in GKOTM, we see what Kong does during the Novel and he did not give a shit about the world and focused on his Island.

So then in GvK, whenever he attacks Kong now, he’s kind of just resuming a literal Gang/Race War that Kong wasn’t even alive for and is being punished for his parent’s sins. Therefore, Godzilla was a racist.
