I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest some possibilities…
1.) Godzilla is upset that the military built Mechagodzilla to kill/drive him off and kill the other titans, upsetting the natural balance. Godzilla begins wrecking all of their stuff, so they capture Kong and want him to fight Godzilla, using the little girl as emotional bait.
2.) Mechagodzilla, disguised as Godzilla is the one doing all the bad stuff. Monarch captures Kong to fight off “Godzilla”. Once Mechagodzilla is discovered to be what he is, and the real villain, Godzilla and Kong team up to defeat him.
3.) Godzilla and Kong genuinely hate each other. Godzilla hates Kong for not bowing to him as the Alpha. Kong does not want to be anyone’s subject. They wreak such havoc that Monarch builds Mechagodzilla to stop them both. They all fight.
4.) Similar to #2, except that Godzilla has been captured by the human villains and Mechagodzilla has taken his place. The humans find out and find a waynto free him in time for the final battle between himself, Kong and Mechagodzilla.
I find those the most likely scenarios.

Number 2 because this is the plot of Mechagodzilla vs Godzilla. APEX controlling mechagodzilla instead of aliens. Uses ghidorah’s brain which enrages it for the final fight when the real Godzilla’s there even though mechagodzilla was fighting Kong the first time, thus requiring the teamup.
The Super X is here too.
Basically no other reason for them to use mechagodzilla specifically for this movie other than for a reveal that it’s not Godzilla who’s destroying the city. That’s mechas entire gimmick.
Bonus points if they enrage both Kong and Godzilla in Hong Kong as an excuse to send in a now-revealed mechagodzilla to destroy them both but humans lose control of ghidorah brain once it sees godzilla.
Trailer already shows a map where they’re looking for a doppleganger Godzilla.
