Hot Take on "Story Mode"

No hunter intentionally makes a sound when stalking It’s prey, clicking should only be active when running or walking not crouched. As for health I believe it’s perfect, as for stamina I believe the hunter, 87, elder, samurai, berserker and alpha all need a bit more, the larger predators understandably drain stamina faster but I don’t ever recall a predator panting for breath.

And mele weapons should drain less stamina, a berserker and samurai can’t use mele weapons if they plan to leap away at any point rendering mele out of the question.

Hunter/Alpha/JH and most definitely Elder have enough Stamina as it is.

Sure Berserker and Samurai could use some more, I admit. But they’re meant to be slow.

Melee in general should be out of the Question until you know for sure victory can be achieved by going all in, they’re Syringes are used up, they have no more Kits anywhere and they’ve been shooting a lot for example. And even then, if they’re playing hard to get by Meele, just stick to shooting the hell out of them.

We need to find a way to bring berserker and samurai back to a usable existence otherwise they are just waisting space.

Hey brother, I don’t think this is right. I’m reasonably certain we won’t get the content Patch till a couple weeks after City Hunter. He drops on the 28th and will probably have a tease for the new content but we won’t get the patch till his weapons leave early access.

I think a ‘story mode’ might be a bit of a stretch but not out of the question, might be 2 years before it’s time for that though.

I do think we will be getting more Tutorials as both Pred and possibly FT. I’d like to think so at least. As new content is added, I think some of it might require some form of tutorial to get everyone on the same page about the goals or challenges they might face.

I still think it’s best to build content for multiplayer, but share that content with all players. So for example they add a monster/alien T-Rex thing. You should be able to hunt it with your Pred or FT in PM, with or without friends.

My apologies, I was referring to his concerns about Predator/FT balance, not Gameplay Content.

Usually when DLC Drops so do Balance Changes.

Ah, good to know. I just didn’t want people losing their damned heads on the 28th.

We need a offline bots or survival or zombie type mode with hordes increasing with every level. If this game dies something should be playable. What if they tAke servers down and you could no longer private match? It shouldn’t be our new mode coming that’s for sure as everyone knew this was a pvp multiplayer game with no advertising of single player. Adding bots and difficulty adjustments as a option will probably alleviate a lot of players who want to play solo.

I think its fairly general to say everyone is not looking for a AAA title single player mode, but a solo challenge mode…something to take offline and work on but not get carried away with in terms of farming (maybe making it award lacking is the way to go).
It should serve as a Practice Challenge only as far as solo offline mode goes imho.

To answer your question OP, the answer is simple and straightforward.
1)Longevity of the game, one day, P:HG’s servers will shut down, having a single player component will allow players to play even after servers shutdown. This isn’t an immediate concern, but it IS a long term concern, I can go back and play ANY of the prior AVP, or even singular predator games right now, because they all contain a single player component, if P:HG’s servers went down today, we’d be SOL for any type of gameplay.

2)Lore/Storyline is one of the big draws of the franchise for some. I ADORE the OWLF/Dutch tapes, and anything that can give me more storyline, more information, little tidbits about characters I care about, or information about the creature itself, I’ll eat up, why? Because I love this franchise, always have.

3)Prior Predator/AVP titles had a “Tacked on” multiplayer. Historically, Multiplayer in these titles are an afterthought, a secondary mode, where the meat of the game was the single player, and you hopped into multi for fun and glory as a secondary thing. While I’m ALL for a Predator Multiplayer experience like what we currently have, a single player portion could bring more players into the fold, perhaps some are avoiding P:HG currently because it’s Multiplayer only, some people don’t like that… other’s might give the single player a chance, enjoy the gameplay and try Multiplayer, which only adds to the Multiplayer player pool.

4)Sometimes, you just want to hop on, and kill some survivors/hunt the pred without dealing with toxicity. Let’s be real, this game’s a bloody cesspool with some of the players, and even users on this forum, A single player portion of the game [even if it’s just bot-matches] allows a player who may just want to kick back, relax, and hunt some humans as the pred, to do just that, without having to deal with toxic players, or PC death squads with questionable movement and potential aimbots. I know in Friday the 13th, I enjoy the bot-match simply because I can hop in as Jason, and just, go kill some Campers for the fun of it. I’d LOVE to do the same in P:HG.

5)New Player Experience. The current tutorial teaches very, VERY little for Predator gameplay, and literally no information for FT beyond the “extra’s” menu containing what amounts to the manual. Having a solid single player experience that teaches the mechanics of both Predator, and Fireteam, even if just in a “simulated” bot match enviornment, would go a LONG way to improving retention and helping the NPE.

There’s 5 solid reasons for a single player mode.

In regards to it not rewarding play, I’ll disagree, because you need the ability for players to rank up even once the servers go down, I know this is a sore spot for Multiplayer purists that want to earn everything in their matches, and have that be the only way, but honestly, one of the best things Illfonic did with P:HG, was enabling progression during private matches, to help get around the need for quickplay, and arguably, the need for their servers to be active, it’s good for again, longevity of the game.

  1. Can’t agree with you or think your post serious. Why even put old avp games into light…you NEED TO START MODERNIZING YOUR ARGUMENTS!
To compare anything to what you had in your glory days are irrelavent.

  2. This has never been about Multiplayer Gmes vs Single player Games. Where do you get the nerve to compare not ONLY THE BUDGET of this game but the WHOLE CONCEPT OF THE TWO. BOTH ARE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT!!!

  3. WHERE IN THE PAST HAS…kkkkk…look at my first point!!!

  4. When the hell do you hop on ? Theres a lobby!!! Every match starts off as a restart of the mission. EVvery player is fresh. Your point is erelavant!

  5. A new Single PLayer experience that lasts 30 hours like Death Stranding is not essential. what they need is a Time Challenge for bots. I agree with you there.

Your post is trying hard to get me HOT! Someone cool this shit down!

Really how many people went back and played through avp’s short ass campaign, even for different species, more than once other than achievement hunters. And that was a game made with SP in mind from the start

Thank you Finessology …muchas gracias

There are types of ‘story mode’ using the term loosely, that could be done in this game, really more of a chapter based ranking system.

On a four month Schedule or there about’s we could receive ’chapters’ that contain story elements. These ‘chapters’ are stand alone missions but each one furthers the plot. As for the plot, I figure ranking up your Predator would suffice and simple cut scenes can establish the mission. Scenes could also play out at the start of the mission, ie. an elder talks to you then turns and boards the ship or at the end makes a speech to you when you present your trophy.

Maps don’t have to be super big or detailed with human elements, if it’s a single fight or creature your battling. We could reuse sections of existing maps or small pieces of future maps.

  • Hunt a Bad Blood
  • Kill an Amengi
  • Kill 25/50/75 heavily armoured Bots, defending a compound.
  • Any big game animal added could have a story told about it, bears, lions, tiger, rhinos, crocodiles, Bobcat, Coyote.
  • Legendary Human opponents from history, tribesmen, gladiators, warriors from different places and times. (There are ways to balance this, whether it means giving the bots a way to dodge/auto parry or some other tactic like having them be super resilient.)
