I’d like to talk about Moderators

Well I hope this forum is not owned by a Canadian company.

As I understand it, Canada does have laws about speech and folks can be charged with actual crimes for saying (or not saying) certain things?

I am also glad to hear your elaboration in regard to groups.

Canada is in North America (the Continent) but is not part of the United States of America.

I hope that answers your question.

So a Canadian is as American as a French person is European? Or there as American as a Kenyan is African? I am confuse

No I don’t think so. When someone says “American” I think they are generally speaking of the United States.

I can say that I have never heard of the term being used that way.

Do you have a quote or context to help maybe?

I don’t, it’s just how I always thought of it :/ I have never been to the Americas but, so I don’t know the colloquialisms…

yea right, a few bad apples so lets throw away the whole bunch. makes perfect sense

smh

So does America, most countries do, for example yell fire in a theatre or bomb on a airplane and you’ll get charged to. It isn’t b/w, and if your referring to proper pronouns, yes we have a tribunals that can give you fines, not charges.

United States does not really have laws like that. Free speech is a protected right.

Privately owned companies/services can make their own rules on their property/use of their services but I think that is about as far as it goes.

This place is no where as bad as Gamefaqs

You’re wrong actually, your political speech is protected. You can be charged with terrorism laws for your speech in the U.S. too, same goes for issuing threats. In fact an American woman was charged in the death of her boyfriend for text messages encouraging him to kill himself, this speech is not protected speech.

And that is the big debate, what is speech and what is dangerous/truly harmful actions that just happen to be carried out with words.

I am pretty certain that simply saying to someone “You should kill yourself” alone is not against the law. The whole thing had to be taken into context and deliberated on to determine the crime.

Do you happen to know the case or what the actual crime the woman was charged with?

Don’t get me wrong, I both respect and encourage the protectIon of free speech laws. Political speech should not be censored but that does not mean all speech should be given the same protection.

In Canada our freedom of expression clause covers some speech that would even be offensive, it operates similarly to your constitutional right. Protecting some speech but not all speech.

You Americans and you’re crazy laws

They can get the same level of feedback from social media. Except you don’t see the rants and insults there like you do here.

lol, have u ever been to twitter? the whole platform is a rant, cmon bro

Sorry I disappeared for a bit, had to eat dinner and look this case up quick.

With very little research, I think I found it. If it was the Massachusetts case, the girl was apparently charged with manslaughter. The texts and her lack of trying to help afterwards were just part of the evidence. She was not charged for the words she had said or texted in this case (e.g. her speech).

If that is not the case or I am wrong or you have more info please share. Thanks!

Freedom of speech guys. Why the hell are so many people against it? People have some sort of weird fetish where their rights are taken away from them? Someone called you a nasty word? How old are you even to complain about this? Grow up kids.
