Illfonic, I’ve turned crossplay off until spotting/marking is sorted

@Illfonic
@Courier

I’ve had to turn crossplay off, I’ve had enough of the spam spotting/marking from what seems to be mainly PC players.

I just dont feel like a stealthy hunter against them, whereas PS4 players for whatever reason don’t abuse this feature; I feel like a stealthy hunter again.

Granted, PS4 seems to have more casual players and therefore the matches are easier, but I would rather have the authenticity of feeling like Predator which necessitates having that feeling of being invisible and stealthy too.

Will gladly turn crossplay back on when this issue - which I’m sure your sick of hearing - is sorted.

(Also please do something about controller aiming, it’s horrendous compared to other games…and then you ask us to go up against M&K? Well at least give us a better controller experience + advanced controller options).

Many thanks, I love your game and give feedback so that hopefully the game will get even better.

Thanks for your support. I know I can’t be the only PS4 player to turn crossplay off because of spotting madness.

The less experienced PS4 pred mains there are for PC fireteams, the more they will fight less experienced ones leading to those players getting frustrated and turning crossplay off…it could turn into a vicious cycle.

I just hope Illfonic do something next patch, hopefully next week. They didn’t do anything in yesterday’s patch…which is worrying.

However I just feel lucky I’ve got it on PS4 and can play against only them as they use spot…but they don’t abuse it.

Ahh man i know it… I just like leave the lobby if i get 3 pc players and 1 console player or full lobby of pc players… Like the max i can take on me is 2 pc players and 2 console players, I cant stress this enough how hard it is to just win againts PC players and no matter how good you are, they are able to just spam spot most of the time if you actually try to ambush them… Like even if i verse 2 pc and 2 console its basically a hussle and stressful experience that it makes the game feel like you have to try hard and at the end be like oh its over okay… By tryhard i dont mean have fun while doing it… i mean you feel stressed and not satisfied at all… NOT TO MENTION how predator is actually limited and not explored to its fullest

You are not the only person to turn off cross play , I’m with you too.

I turned it off as soon as the game was done installing lol.

Like let me tell you right now, I am officially a PC player on most games that need controller and stuff… I just love KBM gameplay… i tried controller but im too dumb at it… The point is, when i get either full lobby of console players i never try hard but rather play to my full potential of predator, i am able to play mindgames and just use voice mimic and stuff like that right, and usually i always let them call in backup to like have fun

Exactly, it’s not about fighting almost impossible odds that ceaseless spotting brings (basically may as well drop the cloak and fight for your life).

I enjoy the experience of a stepping into the shoes of Predator…this means I need to have that option to be easily stealthy which PS4 FT seem to make possible.

2 PC players seems to be ok, but yes 3 and 4 and the ceaseless spotting threshold is passed unfortunately…then it’s just survive and leap around and get in little hits. Yes, might be a challenge, but I don’t feel like Predator from the iconic movie they are trying to capture. Not. One. Bit.

I did turn it off at first. Then I turned it on and had some good games, but now the spotting meta has taken over in the PC community.

I can only guess that PS4 is full of causal players who haven’t heard about the whole spotting fiasco and haven’t exploited it.

Well, if more and more good PS4 Pred mains turn it off, it’s going to hurt PC FT and I pitty those inexperienced PS4 Preds they go against because they will just take a trip to Settings too…unless Illfonic fix this issue.

But as I said, they didn’t fix it yesterday and they definitely know about it because it’s been all over the forums for a while now.

@Illfonic @Courier Yes I’m ignorant about programming, but I must ask: how hard can it be to change the programming so that an invisible Predator cannot be spotted. So that there is no nonsense highlighted Predator through walls? FT can see Pred’s laser. They can see the arrow trails. I’m no programmer, but I’m going to make my best guess that it doesn’t take much to turn those two things off. Then I’ll happily come back to crossplay. Of course I won’t drop the issue about a better controller experience + advanced controller options, but at least I can be Predator and be stealthy again.

Yup, on PC you can just spam spott the living shit out off the cloaked pred in seconds. Its completly broken man, marking shuld not be in this game at all! At least not working on cloaked pred, its pure bullshit… I’ve said this atleast a 100 times now. Remove marking from this game Illfonic!

I’ve never even had it on 🤷‍♀️

Exactly and it’s a very highlighted issue on this forum (excuse the pun).

But they didn’t fix it yesterday???

As I said above, I’m no programmer, but how hard it is to change the programming so that spotting an invisible predator is turned off or given an exclusion in the spotting code? The same goes for highlighted Predator through walls…FT are not Supermen after all.

You can see where Pred is based on sound, thermal vision change, aiming laser and arrow trails. That’s all that is needed.

true, mrking him is OP as hell
Its not hard to change this, but I think problem is that someone at Illfonic thinks this is a wonderfull mechanic that everybody loves, so why change it? If you will look in to extras, the “how to” section for FT would have to be changed to, quz it includes a chapter on marking cloaked preds…

I partly hope more PS4 Pred mains like me turn crossplay off and then Illfonic actually look at the forums and see the spotting metta and finally put two and two together 😆

If they don’t fix this issue with a patch next week, then crossplay stays off.

Every day they allow new PS4 players go against PC with this issue the more likely they will too turn CP off. It’s going to harm PC players and they are going to find it takes longer to find a game when really it shouldn’t.

Illfonic should be encouraging CP.

I’m a PC player and play both FT and Pred and I can also say that when I play Pred against a full PC FT, it’s not fun.

I’m not going to lie, I’m ok at both species, but I main Pred, and I’ve lost many a time against a a well communicated console FT.

But PC FT players… I almost always loose. Now I know that there is more precision with mouse n keyboard, and I do benefit myself even though I miss a fair bit, but spotting…its CONSTANT with PC players. I mean, there is no stealth element at all Playing as the Predator. Yes, he’s way too noisy, but I literally cant go anywhere without that horrid sound and word appearing on my screen.

I’m in agreement with the OP on this one, and it definitely needs to be addressed.

I have crossplay turned off since I think pc players have the natural advantage of being able to aim with a mouse, which is by default more precise. And I prefer to play in equality of conditions.

Not sure about how that question you mention about spotting could be solved. But I think the fireteam should actually still be able to spot a predator even if he is fully invisible if they somehow deduce where he is. For example if they look at the trajectory of the smart disc going back to him, or if they look at the angle the combistick has when lands on the ground, they can guess where he is and therefore they deserve to spot him for the team.

Maybe limiting the number of uses of spotting with some cooldown would work, so soldiers can’t machinegun it until they find predator. Probably that’s the bad use you are referring to.

Well let’s hope there’s a patch that fixes it this week…the fact it wasn’t addressed in yesterday’s patch however doesn’t fill me with confidence; but I’m lucky as I can have a good stealth/predator experience with crossplay off.

They can follow the arrow trail for example and just shoot in that direction…they shouldn’t have the Superman ability to see an outline all of a sudden and to also see this outline through walls.

Yes this is the skill-less abuse of a broken mechanic that is done to win / spoil any authentic experience of being a stealthy Predator.

In that case, I think the cooldown solution I propose would be a reasonable one. For example if spotting is used three times within one second (this number could be different, just an example to explain the idea), it gets blocked and can’t be used for certain amount of time.

This would take away the option from the soldiers to “spam” the spotting until they find you, solving the problem. But would still allow them to spot an invisible predator if they actually deduced where he is in some way different to just using spotting over and over.
