Depending on where you are, gringo can mean either just “white person” or “english speaking white person” or “white person that doesnt try to speak spanish” or “north american (of any race) that doesnt try to speak spanish” or from some people it can be an endearing term for a “foreigner” and its even more complicated when you include Brazil where they don’t speak spanish so yeah, he’s not using it in a friendly way, but it’s still not a slur, you dummy (dummy is about equivalent in offensiveness in this particular case here)
