Yes. It’s a type of democracy…

… a representative democracy, as we democratically elect officials to represent our will legislatively.

As opposed to a direct democracy, such as Switzerland, where they democratically vote on specific legislation directly.

I should clarify that I assume when you say “America,” you are talking about the United States.
