Illfonic doesn’t handle F13 anymore, that has been passed off to Gun Media. And they can’t add any new content until the stupid lawsuit gets settled.
its getting worse and worse
Did u know it was a lawsuit??
I hope so. Interest in playing PHG is really hurting.
No personal attacks people. It’s a fair thread and I don’t want to lock it.
To be clear, I don’t want to oversell the next release as the panacea that solves everything, but it is a solid move in the right direction. Stay tuned.
Was more of an accurate description than an insult… and incredibly odd that such a rule is being enforced now when the subject isn’t even here (afaik) but insults directed at actual members fly under the radar… but okay.
It’s turtles isn’t it? I like turtles.
All jokes aside thank you for the feedback. The games got It’s bugs but overall is a lot of fun and has so much potential. I look forward to seeing whats in store.
Gun Media was the Publisher of Friday the 13th, illfonic was the development team ie. the programmers. The lawsuit happened between the owner of the franchise Sean Cunningham and the writer of the original movie, Miller. Miller exorcised his right to reclaim his intellectual property after 35 years. Cunningham claimed it was a work for hire and not eligible for reclamation. Miller won the rights to the first Friday in the US, but not international. Cunningham appealed and people are waiting for a ruling on that appeal.
Illfonic parted ways with Gun Media not long after no content was announced, I assumed that their contract was up when they could no longer continue support at the same rate. That the need for a team of almost 100 simply wasn’t there. They did release a bug fix patch before leaving, while working with Black Tower, if I recall correctly. Then turning the rest of the bug fixes over to Black Tower. Who have done a respectable job considering they only had a few months with illfonic to learn the games code.
Gun Media has always been the ones driving Friday, not to take anything away from what illfonic did do.
yes I’m well aware of the details surrounding the lawsuit… I’ve been a huge fan of F13 all my life (and I’m an old man) so I’ve been following it closely and hoping for a resolution.
I posted it as much for others. Lots of people don’t understand that games are made in concert between more than one company, each with their own work to do to make it work.
The lawsuit stuff helps people understand why illfonic had to move on, employees need work to do and with no content, no work. The shader guys/girls can’t fix a rubber banding bug.
the appeal is much less with F13 than it is with Predator. I’m sure everyone knew that, but to leave it hanging was no way for companies to survive.
Illfonic didn’t leave Friday hanging, they handed development duties ie. bug fixing, off to another smaller company. One that knew they would be grinding at the code for months.
Black Tower actually worked with illfonic near the end, they did what was good for their company and employees.
While I can’t speak to the opinions of Illfonic for Gun or the other way around. It seemed like a break made without malice.
Fingers crossed then, because the next update and two weeks will be the decider for many and I’ve lost too many people already. I want my squad back, and only a map and/or mission will do that…
If you don’t want to over sell the next update maybe avoid buzz words such as very substantial lol. As long as auto actions and walk of death are fixed I’ll be happy.
Paranoia was announced before blackwater studios or whatever they’re called took over. And it was canned before. Just like other stuff on the roadmap that never came to be. I’m aware of the lawsuit. And perhaps my Uber Jason and Grendal example weren’t the best, the others still stand.
My point was that I believe there’s more to the silence than we’re led to believe. Maybe there’s not and I’m just overthinking it, who knows. But what I do know is that talking to much means you have to stick to those promises. And when something goes wrong that causes a delay, the reception isn’t normally taken very well. This isn’t just illfonic. It’s every game out there. Best example is the launch of no man’s sky. They talked to much, made too many promises. Which as you should know didn’t end well. Until a year after but still.
I’m trying to give people an insight on why communication about content is the way it is. And temper their expectations.
This. I love the game, franchise etc. and I’ve tried to support but feel like it’s done. I even bought a copy for my best mate so he could play. He played it once.
Deluxe edition £50
Standard £35
Dutch £4
City Hunter £4
Samurai £4
So all that spent and I’m still playing 3 from maps.
“Oh my” - Keyes '97
Truly got me (and others) on nostalgia here and it’s annoying that no significant content has dropped since launch.
Lol remember when we thought the beta was a snippet and then it was just the game. Should have not bothered at that point.
This genre starts with a low number of maps, they tend to be added on a schedule, illfonic has said a map is coming. I don’t believe they are behind schedule assuming we do get a new map this month.
These games have a production schedule that we don’t see but it’s happening in the background. In the future we may get variations of existing maps as is also common with this genre, don’t be surprised when we do. Variation maps are used to vary the playing experience while other more complicated or larger maps are completed.
Set your expectations at their schedule so as to not be disappointed. I do hope we get the next section of road map as that can be hard to do without a guide. Assuming the next section is four months long, I’d set it about there for large new content drops.
Monthly I would expect them to continue releasing Predator’s from film, comics and game’s. These are meant to tide us over and expand the game at a stead pace, in three years we will be swimming in content but that means the first year is the hardest.

Devs if you wouldn’t mind, I would suggest adding an early access FT character to each Predator sold.
This teases them for the next months free release and adds to the FT roster. FT gear or perks could be done the same way if there isn’t a FT member to add. Expanding the early access to other things than weapons, are likely to get those players playing some matches as the other side.
The entire team from Predators would be nice to see added in for FT.
I mentioned a number of ways they could be released in another thread and if I recall. I think I thought packs of three were the best alternative to them doing the early access paired thing.
I’m not a hundred percent on it for two reason’s, first it might set unhealthy expectations and second I don’t know what their production has planned, done, or can accomplish in month to month releases.
I do think as their planned monthly schedule is a good one when compared to Dbd’s 3 month with a 6 week insert, to keep engagement.
Last Year and Hide or Die both failed at setting a reasonable schedule and it cost them. RE-R is also doing theirs on about the same, slightly in between PHG and Dbd. They had a slight advantage by releasing a month earlier and so have already gotten their next map.
I hope the dev’s can communicate more after the release.

Honourable mention, events. We don’t know if these are a thing we can expect. I think they might be as it’s an excellent way to test new modes in a live environment and to add mechanics to modes that might not get built without the event taking place, as events can be considered advertised and sales boosting.
Something similar to a Playable Test Build would be good for PHG to make sure things are working okay for release, so we don’t have a City Hunter launch again.
