The Shadow games whilst very non-canon always admitted to being such and still respected Tolkien’s world, which is why they said from day 1 they’re meant to be What Ifs. RoP has zero fucking respect for the man’s work. To me it comes off as a Dragon Age script they hastily rewrote into being LOTR because that’s the more valuable IP.

My context is that since the beginning of Hollywood, white casts always replaced POC roles in films due to the racism that persistent in America since the 1910s when Hollywood was firmly established. It’s only recently that more diverse roles, for better or for worse, is being introduced in the mainstream. Fin tried to frame it as Big actors > Small actors, there is race factor in these choices when history dictated otherwise.
The recent Little Mermaid debacle is simply that she is black and therefore wrong. Something about blackwashing or whatever when its funny that for a Danish story, it uses Greek lore and includes a Jamaican crab, so whatever claims about “accuracy” is out the window here when the modern remake is a Danish story in the Caribbean, using Greek lore, and now the Mermaid is black. I’m saying that if people really cared for accuracy, this should have been called out long ago, but it wasn’t so how can I take this argument seriously.
The original Ariel was a redhead. She should be played by redheads, this is non-negotiable. When a character is designed, they are meant t be portrayed that way. It’s racist when they make Goku white. It’s racist when they make Scarlet Witch white. It’s racist when they make Ariel or any other redhead Black.
If you disagree, you are a racist.
Just say “it’s okay when we do it”. It’s a lot easier instead of writing so much and looking like a lefty “meme”.
