Coding is literally just an excuse to talk about the exact same shit as Stereotyping. It takes small or inconsequential parts of a character to lump them into a category. Somebody dresses a certain way? They’re Coded. Somebody has a certain voice? Coded. Same fucking bullshit as stereotypes. It’s ignortant & stupid.

I deleted it because the next thought had nothing to do with this so it didn’t make sense of keeping this. But if you must know:

There is recent debate about how white and dark skinned elves are potrayed in media, namely that white elves are good and dark skinned elves are chaotic beings. People didn’t like the idea of dark always means bad, since the real life implications of dark skinned people mean bad, IE black people seen as insert stereotype here. Lots of neckbeards get mad that they can’t keep the dark skinned elves or whatever race as it is cuz DA AGENDA, but it seems like you’re on board on fuck the dumb notion of white skinned elves = good and dark skinned elves = bad. So I deleted it as it had no place in the argument. It wasn’t even complete so again, taken out of context of a barely done thought.

Also the racism of low expectations. Theres a dude who went around a college campus and asked white students if they thought voter ID laws were racist. They said yes that it disenfranchises black people and essentially said blacks were too stupid and poor to get IDs. Its so great watching it.

  1. The Dark Elves in DND & TES are typicall Blue & Purple. So when they’re an evil race there’s literally no real world implications.

Yeah I know but I’m talking about how they are seen and consumed in Western Media, namely America as it’s where the conversation about this topic is mainly taken place. Except its explained WHY they are evil. Drow are evil because their god is evil and controls them with an iron fist, granted there are some that escape. Orcs in DnD are evil because their progenitor god is an evil warmongering and blood thirsty god. Orcs in LotR are evil because they were elves that were literally twisted and corrupted by what is essentially the Devil in that universe.

They were literally created TO BE EVIL by cosmic beings!

Also Tolkien is literally on record as saying “The world of Middle-Earth is entirely unrealistic in its Black & White Portrayal. In Middle-Earth the story is about the Races of Men, Dwarves & Elves against the Goblins & Orcs. In real life, in war: both sides are a mix of Elves, Men & Orcs. You said that characters like Mufasa are Coded. I don’t agree, I think anyone who says something has “Code” just wants to stereotype. Simplest I can put it, we are operating on a 3rd grade level here.

But hey since you believe that a character’s Voice Actor dictates stuff about them. Tell me, how is Sonic “Coded”? He has had, at this point in time, Two Black Voice Actors, Four White Voice Actors & Two Asian Voice Actors. What’s his coding since VAs dictate that?
