Melee Should be viable

Against even the best players.
Honestly it’s really distressing to see so many utterly useless feeling melee weapons there are now.
I laughed when I read that club buff.

After this recent patch I was running and trying to melee a FT Member. He was standing on one of those janky metal floors. It was maybe human ankle height off the ground. My predator is gormlessly running into the metal that is about the height of my ankle…and not closing distance. Just clawing the air just in front of them. The Fireteam Member I was just a moment prior closing distance with rapidly …of course is shooting me after the first harmless attack of mine.
I attacked 3 times before I realized I wasn’t doing anything, and a 2nd teammate shows up and starts pelting me.
I’m good at angular leaps to throw the team off, so I got away with 1-5% life…couldn’t say how much for sure but…before this patch I’d have lost half my HP for this TOPS. And this should not even be happening in the first place. Engagement shouldn’t be this sloppy and weird.

The number of terrain traps that look like they shouldn’t be terrain traps for predator ALONE is devastatingly bad now with the recent submachine gun buff. All the maps minor mistakes with the ground, and awkward the predator moves is now INFINITELY more important, and exploitable. If you AREN’T going to do something about the dmg output… I’d do something about the ground. Do something about the melee tracking of predator. Do something about the way the predator moves. Make it look, and feel better.

Didnt you read one of the illfonic guys post? They don’t want preds to play a melee style lol.

Can’t otherwise its too easy to wipe pubs by just mashing the button.
Melee is too braindead to be allowed to be good so its stuck as undeniably the worst option for the pred. People only take the combistick for the throw (those first two, long, easily parried melee swings that do like 30 dmg each are extremely yikes)

There are guns that kill faster than any melee combo with just 1 person firing.

Why even make half of the weapons melee? what a waste of a weapon slot when you can take bow and not worry about a scout sprinting up to you parrying arrows

I keep seeing this shit and it makes no fucking sense.
How is gunplay not braindead, but melee is?

Makes no sense.

Gunplay is also braindead but smashing the melee button is worse.

Aiming vs leaping close to someone and just swinging away on weapons with good tracking. They should’ve done more with the melee system because its nonexistent. Atleast Katana got a heavy attack.

If they removed tracking altogether maybe melee would be allowed to do damage for once

I dont see how it’s worse considering we can shred through a pred easily.
This has got to be the first game where people like range over melee.

I guess it has to with ppl only looking to play in where they have the advantage.

But I think its stupid.
Guns take no skill.

As far as melee I’d love knock up attacks, and sweeps.
But ppl would bitch too much.
They already are.

Every game with melee has tracking, other wise it would be useless. The only way melee would work then is if it was a vr style game where it followed your body movements.

Whenever you throw a punch or kick, you follow through, or lean into it, you dont just stand there like a retard.

Unless you’re trying to just evade, you follow your opponent.

Given that I dont get the hate for tracking.

I just don’t understand what a lot of ppl that play this game think or say.

To me it just sounds like ppl never played any true games, old school games.

Not to the degree of this game no. You’re pushing 1 button and it rolls out an automatic kill combo in one direction. Skill ceiling for melee is nonexistent because it isn’t fleshed out whatsoever.

People that don’t parry will whine

Ok so the only reason people believe fps requires some level of skill is due to it requiring fast reaction time, map memorization, (in some games) and very accurate sometimes minimal movements it’s not much different from say a fighting game requires memory of the roster knowing your mains bread and butter and having the execution skill to pull any complicated combos that are more nich while also having quick reactions

Yeah but early on melee weapons had no or shit tracking and ft could literally walk circles around the predator

That too, melee is doomed.

Combisticks big arcing AOE swings would’ve been fine, could’ve kept the original damage and just made the tracking not as amazing as it is.

For melee to be viable at at all levels they either need some 2ndary niche effect like dash attacks or aoe slams or a level of complexity simaler to the katana or say (stay with me) so dark souls right? It’s a 3rd person action RPG every single weapon had a input that produces a type of attack with a different dmg multiplier in a 3d environment some of these attacks combos some do not some have special properties like knockdowns some do not which in theory would work here

It’s not our fault there aren’t combo’s, or anything.
A button combo for an ascension jump vs a smaller jump would be easy to do, and super helpful. So there’s no reason melee combo’s and tricks couldn’t also be a thing. R1 attacks and R2 like Dark Souls even. Melee isn’t braindead at all. There’s positioning, and flanking. Just like range fighting. How is smashing a button over and over more “braindead” than holding a button down while scrolling over something? Get over yourselves please.

Where? Link pls 🙏🏻

Patch 2.0 thread. Go read through it lol.
