I hope it does well enough for them to keep making more movies. It’s kinda a niche category.
Seems like it will considering all the reviews & word of mouth so far has been entirely positive, outside of this place.
From all the spoilers say, it’s going to be full of action and the Pred is going to be a badass, and there’s going to be some nice kills and slaughtering. But I mean…the ending. It ruins it. But I suppose if Naru killed the Pred barehanded it would be labeled as woke bullshit, so either way it’s a loss. But if that’s the case, isn’t the ending of Predator 2 woke, because it’s a black man doing the deed? But nobody says shit about that. I don’t know it just…sounds anticlimactic to me. I really liked the idea that Greyback or some Enforcer was going to show up and help, that would have been a better ending. Maybe it works better in motion, maybe something is lost in translation reading about it. I guess we’ll see soon.
Its a 4 to 5 paragraph rundown of a 90 minute movie, of course we have lost like 80% of the context and build up.
It just sounds like Predator 1’s ambush cat & mouse finale mixed with 2’s 3 way meathouse battle. And that stuff works so it don’t sound like a problem.
I know, that’s why I’m holding some benefit of the doubt. But like…the Pred being so stupid to launch something, it backfired and what, his mask? Or something? Just comes back and decaps him? I understand Yautjas are cocky fucks, but come on…
I can see that comparison to 1 and 2, and that sounds awesome, but at least in those movies, ending the Pred was creative. Dutch used a trap that JH missed, bam. Harrigan actually went hand to hand with CH and got the killing blow. Amazing, big balls. But his gauntlet malfunctioning because of his biomask, or something? So Naru really did shit and it was just faulty technology…? 😐
I mean Jungle let a log fall on his head and he screamed like a little girl when he got caught in a net trap.
City tried to blow up half a city block when he was hanging from a 20 foot ledge whilst he and other Yautja can easily jump 50 to 60 feet and land safely.
We don’t even know what it is that kills Feral, just that his Bio-Mask is involved and that checks out.
A loss for Pred is a loss no matter which human does it. Pred should not lose normally. 1 - too cocky, 2 - inexperienced, preds - grenades, lol, 2018 - still haven’t seen, prey - from what @SomeknowmeasXeno wrote it seems like there a lot of chaos so perhaps it’s like the death of Achilles where there was a lot of chaos fair Paris managed to hit the sole of his foot, and we all know that a sole is normally a mortal area when wounded.
Fair points. But the climaxes for those felt more meaty, like more was on the line. This just sounds like a cop out since there’s no real way Naru could have won physically. Which is guess is all they could have done.
I mean Dutch didn’t win physically either. He did the exact same thing Naru is gonna be doing. Harrigan is the only dude on film to win a straight up fist fight with a Pred.
I see your point, Preds shouldn’t win, normally, yes. And that’s fine, it’s expected. I just want their loss to make sense.
Admittedly, Pred only had one hand. I feel like if CH didn’t lose that arm it might have ended differently.
Well yeah but City decided to do something stupid and lost his arm for it. From what it sounds with Feral, Feral doesn’t make a mistake he’s just busy fighting other dudes when Naru shoots him in the back and that makes him lose his mask. Lord fucking knows how many times that has happened in game…
I think Preds should win all the time, but something weird happens and they lose. I guess it would be more interesting if both sides would win sometimes. By now we have been conditioned that Preds always lose so the suspense is gone. Only salvageable thing is how they lose, and if we’re already at this point, there is no way to make a good ending, in my opinion.
I think anybody going into either Alien or Predator and expecting them to ya know, win, is stupid. We’ve had like 40 years, not even counting almost every other Horror franchise, to just know “Yeah they’re the monster, they’re gonna lose unless the movie decides to be an edgy subversion.”
And I want them to win, I want more stories where they win. Half the fun of beating FT in this is showing off the win, the other half is FT is broken as fuck and its funny if they lose even with all that to back them. But that ain’t ever gonna be in a movie, we barely ever get them winning in the expanded universe. Its why characters like Scarface stick with us, a huge exception to all the rules and a cool character to boot.
Very few horror or sci-fi films end with the monster winning, and I think those film stand out more because of that. Like The Thing, or Halloween III. Those end with an obvious victory for the monster, and they leave a very unsettling feeling after it’s over. It’s probably why it rarely happens, they want a satisfied audience.
The Thing is very deliberately ambiguous. Carpenter has never stated who, if anyone, is actually infected. It is very possible neither are, they could be two normal dudes, they could both be a Thing, it could be either one of them. There is no canon answer.
I think they need a different plot. Something where humans are up to no good and Pred is around for the hunt. I guess anti-hero, but would make a Pred win more likely
Indeed, but the ending regardless is not positive at all. Whether one is the Thing or not, there is a undeniable negative outcome if we were to continue the film.
They were on the top of a tall building right? That’s way more than 20ft. I also don’t think the movies ever show the predator making huge leaps, and honestly I think the leaps in PHG are way too big, and there should be fall damage for the Predator and much more fall damage for the Fireteam.
For City Hunter, even if the fall didn’t kill Him, it may have broken his legs and risked capture, so blowing himself up was the correct choice, given their rules/code.
