Preds being outsmarted by weaker beings who just happen to know the environment better than them is basically a staple in this franchise, hell in one comic a Pred gets killed(and then eaten) by a fat guy that lured him into quick sand
The equipment in aliens is complete overkill, its why the marines think they’re invincible badasses. They pretty much are. Autoaim armor peircing motion tracking automated turrets, orbital nukes and such. They have so much funding they cannot lose and the most they deal with is the occassional pirates. They aren’t some Halo Spartan tacticians they just need to be willing to point and fire a gun and know how to set turrets up and watch a computer screen. They hadn’t faced any real threats before xenos because Colonial Marines didn’t have any real threats. The equipments just there to protect very, very expensive colonies with 101% efficiency even if the user’s a dumb jock sent out there to hold an autoaim gun. Probably why they still have them around instead of phasing them out with androids, it’s much cheaper/less maintenance and they accomplish the same objectives at the end of the day.
Colonial Marines are probably the most over-equipped compared to what theyre meant to be fighting in any piece of media next to warhammer lol.
Also yes gotta agree with Fine, the UACM have weapons that are extremely destructive, the pulse rifles are able to kill the Aliens since they use specialized explosive tipped armor piercing rounds
They are used to going to colony planets to deal with some hostile wildlife (that’s what bug hunt stands for), and as we can see by their attitude, such creatures don’t stand a chance against em

Xenos are the only real threat to their colonies and he keeps sending people out to contain one.
Guerilla warfare is the perfect foil to Weylands very expensive investments & its impossible to retake these colonies once they’re infested yet he keeps wanting to contain them for study.

That doesn’t mean people can’t learn more or gain new perspective. People can have bad ideas, they can do bad things but the far majority haven’t done anything that would make me think of them as bad.
