The title pretty much speaks for itself. After the next film, I feel that, much like Star Wars, Predator would be better served continuing on as a streaming series. Each episode should be 1 hr long. It should stream on Hulu (as its owned by Disney, like Fox).
It should feature the return of the female Egyptian Predator that nearly killed Dutch as the main baddie.
Opening scene: a Predator ship drops off a pod, much like the original. Then the title text appears (Predator: something cool…) fade to black. Cut to: blurry flashbacks from The Predator (bear with me. Itll pay-off in a moment, I swear) up to its awful ending.
Dutch wakes up in a cold sweat from a nightmare, breathing heavily. He looks around his dark room, realizing he’s safe, he breathes a sigh of relief. A data pad on a nightstand buzzes and lights up. He picks it up, taps the screen a few times and a large monitor on the wall lights up, showing Terry Crews (Sgt. Anthony Cutter) in military fatigues.
Cutter: General, is everything alright? We read elevated heart signals on your monitor.
Dutch: (A little out of breath) I’m fine.
Cutter: (looks at Dutch, concerned)… was it the nightmare again?
Dutch: (looks down, a little embarrassed to still be having nightmares) Yeah.
Cutter: (smiles, trying to be comforting) Just try to remember, its not real. It never happened.
Dutch: I’m aware of that. Thank you, Sergeant. (Chuckles)… it gets dumber every time.
Cutter: (raises eyebrows, smiling) Yeah? What was it this time?
Dutch: Its was really hard to follow, but it ended with something like an Iron man suit with dreadlocks (chuckles again. Crews chuckles also)… like I said, dumb.
Cutter: Wow.(chuckles die off and he composes himself, but still smiles) Well anyway, best to just forget it wver happened and not talk about it anymore.
Dutch: Agreed… assemble the team in the briefing room. Since I’m up, might as well get an early start.
Cutter: Yes, sir. Something up?
Dutch: Not exactly. Just a gut feeling and I dont want us caught with our pants down. See you in 20.
Cutter: Very good sir. Sgt. Cutter out.
The screen goes black and Dutch gets out of bed and begins his day, looking at his squads through the years, stopping on the squad from the original film. He smiles fondly. He turns on the radio via remote control. Long Tall Sally plays as the camera cuts to Cutter briskly walking through the halls of the OWLF base and his squad getting ready for their moring briefing.
Anyway, the general idea would be that Dutch now runs the OWLF and Cutter is his right hand man. They hunt Predators and try to secure their tech. Sometimes they are successful, sometimes not. During the course of the show, an unblooded Predator would be (unknowingly) used as bait to draw Dutch out of the base by the Egyptian Predator from the Dutch tapes. The Elders have had enough of the OWLF and are looking to wipe them out quickly and as quietly as possible.
This culminates with the Egyptian Predator detonating inside the base, destroying the OWLFs main AO, Dutch sacrificing himself in the penultimate episode of the season to save Cutter and whats left of the squad.
The final episode ends with a huge pod crashing into the earth in front of the surviving members. The pod opens. Royce and Isabel step out, kitted out with certain elements of Predator gear. They step out toward the decimated squad. The squad raises their weapons at the newcomers. Royce and Isabel raise theirs in response. After a beat, Isabel speaks.
Isabel: We’re looking for Lieutenant Mike Harrigan.
More knowing looks are exchanged. Cut to black. Roll credits. Season over.
The point is to bring Predator back to its original days where competent, capable people tackle the offworld threat instead of a entire crew of lame wise asses and a 105 lb generic scientist-who-is-secretly-a-G i Joe. Having Arnold back in the saddle in a meaningful role would certainly get him to return. And Crews is the perfect man to pass the torch on to. He’s a proven draw and, had he been around in 87, would’ve been cast for sure. Of course, getting Adrian Brody, Alice Braga and Danny Glover back is a long shot, but not a bad one to take. I feel that this is the best course the franchise could take AFTER this next film.
Future films could and should focus on Predators visiting earth in different time periods and locations.
