Paid Community Tournaments (Thoughts?)

Hi, none of you probably know me. I’ve been around the AvP scene since AvP 99 and more prominently AvP2 known as }RSC{ Reptile.

To the point, I’m planning to some time in the near future host paid Tournaments for this game and would like to hear and have the communities input.

I’m planning to put $50 down to sweeten the pot, but would like to charge (at the very least) a $2 entry fee (to add to the pool).

I’ve not yet made up the rules, bans or a point system or anything like that. But I’m thinking along the lines of teams of 5, where it’s a team of 4 fire team members and 1 predator competing.

I would also like matches to be recorded for proof if at all possible.

And like i’ve said before, anyone within the community can give their input here and say whether they like it or not or if they have ideas for rules or bans or anything else.

Well, I’m willing to listen to what people would like for bans or not, I’d still like to do it regardless of the game being unbalanced. I think it’d be great fun, even if people went tryhard mode. Like I said, it’d be teams of 1 pred and 4 fire team members… And it wouldn’t be whichever predator or fire team wins gets the prize. It’s the WHOLE team that gets the prize, the whole team of 5 (the predator and fire team members)

Is pretty much impossible to make an asymmetrical game tournament with just one winner.

The very nature of asymmetry prevents a “fair game”

Not to mention the prize would be unfair (1 player taking the pot vs 4 players splitting it)

I did a tourney a while back and a lot of people decided to not participate because, even though by their own admission, the game is very unbalanced, they refused to follow guidelines to balance the game that wasn’t their own opinion.

The game is also riddled with a plethora of bugs which often times are game-breaking.

I get you, and that’s fair. But I’m splitting the pot between 5 people… not 1 or 4… and if it was for free for entry it’d be $10 per person for winning.

I get there are bugs and I get there are people who don’t want to follow rules. I’m willing to let it be a lawless wasteland if that’s what people want. But I don’t think charging $2 for entry wouldn’t be bad even if it was 2 teams of 5 players, at most the winning team would earn $14 a piece.

Also, did i mention this was on Hunt gamemode? 1 team’s predator vs another team’s 4 fire team members, then switch predator and fire team members next round?

I’m trying to make it a bit like Dead by Daylight’s tournies.

How are you going to manage if that team (compromised of 4 FT players and 1 Predator player, I’m guessing) Wins only one side of the story? i.e. The FT ends 1st place but the Predator player ends 4th or 5th.

Nonono, It’s the ENTIRE TEAM that get’s 1st place they all get paid the same… the predator is the same as the fire team. they’re all on a team together.

Then how is 5 people and not 4… I don’t get it.

I still don’t get what are you going to do if for example:

FT A wins against Pred B
FT B wins against Pred A

Who is the winner, A or B?

Ok, say that the Predator B player kills all (or most of it’s members) of FT A next round but Predator A doesn’t kill FT B (or very many of it’s members) their next round

Then B team wins. This is why I am willing to work with the community on a rule set, but I have some ideas that aren’t all tweaked out yet.

Also if you make it lawless wasteland, I guarantee you teams that pick up 4 support field medics will pretty much not lose a single match. They’ll rush the mission and escape every single time. Even top players like @Samhain13 @Thunderwolf450 know this. You have to be a team compromised of 4 toddler potatoes to lose using shit like that. And even like that it wil be time consuming and “hard” to win as the Predator.

This game won’t work with a tournament, even with rules, because almost nobody will play with those rules, for whatever reason. We’re trying to tell you nicely, give it up with this game, it’s too unbalanced and it’s too far on the FT’s side for damage and advantage. You can have the very very very best Pred going against the very very very best FT and the FT will win 90% of the time. I’m sorry man, tourneys would be cool for this game, but the state it’s in makes it impossible, more than a asymmetrical game should be.

Alright then, :) Still willing to work with people. And yes, I know fire team is OP. But I still feel like you all don’t understand how I’m wanting to run this tournament at all. But I get it, I’ll stop.

It should just be teams of 5 based on nationality . Russia vs USA, China vs Taiwan, North Korea vs South Korea and South America vs the whole world. That would be fair.

Your major issue is going to be technical issues.
A lot of the time theres extreme lag, people constantly crash, ect.

I admire your enthusiasm and fair be it from me to stifle your flair, but if don’t give this up you’ll end up having a nervous breakdown, unless you’ve got a great big bushy beard.

I’d love see a tournament bug it’s a lot of work and you’ll have to face lots of complying and trolling. Literally you wont get any two people get to agree on anything 😂

Hey, I’m down for it honestly. I just want to help out the community. I’ve been around it for awhile and I figured this would be a great thing for it. I’ve recently started to enjoy the game more after buying some of the dlcs and getting back into it after a break.

I’m willing to deal with the trolls, technical issues, lag, crashing etc. The only thing I ask for in return is people be willing to record and / or stream since from what I can tell there isn’t a way for someone to watch over the matches in game. Just so I have a clear proof of each match being done to go over.

If people can provide the means for me to look through the matches I can document the winners in the end as it would help with a lot of the issues in my own opinion.

And if people are experiencing lag, that cannot be helped. But if there is crashing involved, I would invoke the 3 times and you’re out rule. Ether that or, the other team wins after x (3?) amount of crashes. Or at the very least If I have a point based system in the end, leave off with the amount of points before the crash and start the match AGAIN with the same points that were left off last.

Whichever works, I’d also like to hear from you all what should be banned and if you think any of those are even good ideas to deal with that.
