PHG Anniversary Update & Predator Legal Issues

Just something to think about:

In the Thomas Brothers complaint against Disney/20th Century Pictures, the Thomas Brothers say they are entitled to a preliminary injunction (a full stop) on any new Predator works after April 17, 2021 (the effective termination date). I believe it’s very possible that new, especially chargeable Anniversary DLC of this game, could perhaps qualify.

So if the judge rules in favor of the preliminary injunction on the day of the motion hearing (i.e. May , 27th), it’s not new content that will be stopped from that day in May, but new content that will be stopped from the 17th of April.

So if the Anniversary update is applicable, and if the preliminary injunction is enforced, I wonder how difficult would it be to immediately by court order retroactively de-update the game? Illfonic may have been instructed by Disney legal, Sony legal, and/or their own legal representation to hold off and to not comment.

I can’t say I know what’s going on behind the scenes at Illfonic. I don’t. I can’t confirm any of this is happening with any kind of certainty. But after seeing so many people rip Illfonic a new a**hole this past day or so, I at least feel we should really be open to the possibility that this time, this ordeal, might not be Illfonic’s fault.

Just something to chew on.

🤞 With that said, regardless of how realistic or unrealistic this wish turns out to be, here’s hoping none of these legal issues are impacting the game, and the update still somehow comes out this week!

They should speak about this in the up coming stream and explain what this litigation affects in terms of their contract with FOX/Disney.

They aren’t aloud to talk about legal issues , which is pretty standard. Helmet has already stated this

I believe it is because public statements can carry an unknown risk of essentially creating evidence that can be used by the Thomas Brothers against Disney/20th Century Pictures as litigation proceeds. Basically not commenting avoids the old adage - if they can use your own or affiliates words to be used against you, they will.

Such as false advertising and false pretenses that lead to sales of a product that doesn’t match the description 🤔

So i guess we are not getting anymore content for this game. So we can say this game is now dead.

Not necessarily. If this is truly what is impacting the Anniversary update, Sony/llfonic could be waiting for a ruling on the Preliminary Injunction hearing on the 27th of May. And if the ruling goes Disney’s way against an injunction, Illfonic may release this update shortly after that.

Or the Thomas Brothers could settle out of court with Disney prior to the court hearing. So keep your fingers crossed something, anything good happens in this regard! 🤞

I don’t think the forums can wait that long. People are already at Illfonic and @OldKingHamlet 's throats, figuratively speaking, and are ready to drop this game and Illfonic for good. I was really hoping the lawsuit wouldn’t effect PHG’s anniversary this hard, but it’s looking like it has.

I’ve been saying this since the SECOND news about this lawsuit came out - its over (for now). We will get no new predator-related updates. What Illfonic can do (I think, not sure) is add stuff not related to copyrighted lore - Dante-like characters or cosplay Preds

If that is the case , if the lawsuit has been looming , why didn’t they get the movie related ones out months ago

If I understood corectly (and I’m not sure about that) they are not allowed to make any comments regarding the lawsuit. So if the current court case is the reason we are not getting this game updated, than Illfonic has its hands tied by US law - not only can’t they add to game, they can’t even advise why not

Well if that the case then we would’ve gotten Cleopatra yesterday or even before the anniversary.

Something else has to be going on in the background that Illfonic can’t talk about
