Well, that’s not how the previews introduced it, but we after seeing the movie it did have a sense of a strong female protagonist. Perhaps they avoided the gender norm stuff because it was in the future and presumably society got over it and it was a people vs alien story
Predator 5 is fucked already and I'm heartbroken.
If i’m remembering Cloverfield lane right, the trailers were pretty much the last 15 minutes of the movie.
She spent the entire film trying to get to the door to the outside.
It was stupid as hell for a “sci-fi horror film” there was no sci-fi in it. It was human mysterybox drama where the bunker occassionally shook to remind you that there were even aliens in the movie.
At least a proper sequel is in the works

Teenage girl sees thing hunting her tribe that the movie slowly alludes to every half hour, no one believes her, finally escapes village to go to outplay the space alien because shes smarter than all the adult males of her tribe bla bla. Maybe some colonialism too.
I think some comanche hunting buffalo while Predator is hunting them would be a great scene
It’s a possibility. We’re jumping to conclusions way to much here in my opinion. The movie may suck, and it may focus on gender norms too much, but the buildup we have here is just guesses based on previous bad experiences. It may be all that, but it could still make for a good action flick otherwise.
Pred movies were never about smarts. What made the first one great was the mystery and slow progression, isolation, jungle setting. I don’t imagine that can be replicated again unless it’s a copy.

Pretty cynical but when do we EVER get a good R-rated movie with a kid/teenage protagonist? They end up having magic autism powers or some link with the villain everytime to justify their plot armor.
Kids as main characters in horror/action movies suuuucks because it has to be played safe 99.9% of the time.
Being played safe by giving us Dances With Predators with extreme focus on social commentary/drama instead of genuine conflict.
Traps, timing, and knowing how the pred works. They’re about smarts after all the other fodder in the movie dies.

You do have a point about teenagers and R rated movies.
It does make sense in thus setting tho. The girl would have to be young otherwise she’d be a mother if she was older. They just want a female protagonist for whatever reason. I don’t know enough except for the gender norms angle that caught on like wildfire

Disney is notorious for remaking old classics and shoving gender and politics in to them – killing them in the process. No hope for this one I’m afraid
