Animals were harmed in the making of the film, they did eat them - and the director was accused of murder before proving the alleged human deaths weren’t real.
Cops seized prints of the film and magazines were accusing him of making a snuff film.
Gore effects were too realistic combined with the found footage aspect and the “dead” actors were summoned in court to defend him lol.

Tbh Cannibal Holocaust historically is a pretty big deal for horror films & a lot of the reason gore in movies is intentionally made unrealistic-looking now.

Ah I see , was it platoon or cannibal holocaust that used real dead bodies in scenes? There was definitely one movie and they didn’t tell the actors the bodies were real until afterwards?

I find that if the movie is made pretty solid , that seeing less gore is actually more and makes your imagination fill in the gaps
