Predator Lawsuit from Disney

So from many articles I was able to summarize what’s been happening and why we are not getting new content:

Disney is breathing life into the Predator series and we are finally get a new Predator movie, comics and maybe new video games and Content, now seeing this as a opportunity seeing how Predator is getting attention the “Brothers” who originally made Predator are trying to expire Disney’s license on it early, probably so they can rake in the cash

So they can rake in the cash? You do know they probably cashed out for peanuts and lost out on millions? , while I do think a sale is a sale ? I think James Cameron sold the rights to terminator for $1 because studios just made it more trouble than it was worth . I’m sure Cameron has used this contract law aswell fairly recently to get the rights back (or at least a % or more creative control) and he is a multimillionaire? So it could be greed , or it could be they made a deal at the time and slowly got pushed out of how much creative control they had? 🧐🤔

Here are some articles where we did our best to break it down & understand the entire legal battle:

For real? Or are you yanking my crank?

As much as I don’t like the Mouse having control over absolutely everything, I don’t think the brothers having control will yield as much fruit as everyone is making it out to be. Disney does appear to have plans for Alien and Pred alike, and having potentially good media can be better than no media.

Thanks for the breakdown, I couldn’t find Disney’s info till you had it up. I guess we’re waiting on a ruling about which letter is actually valid, although Disney seems to have conceded the third one is by default and not included it in their brief.

Ahhhh, it’s going to be waiting all over again. Different game same legal bs.

Watchu mean finally? Predator movies haven’t exactly halted at any point, and honestly that’s probably why they’ve gotten progressively worse, now to the point of gender roles as a central plot point…

What’s going on is that a couple guys in the 80s wrote one of the greatest action movies of all time and needed to sell it to make it happen. 20th Century Fox picked it up. Disney picked up 20th Century. 30 years later, the bothers are using a copyright law to regain the rights to their character and story.

Fuck the optics and ask yourself if you want fucking Disney to have a monopoly on everything everywhere, or you want the two guys who spawned it to own it? Disney is the one counter suing because they literally want to own American media. It’s an evil fucking corporation lol

Personally I hope they win. I could give a shit less what happens to this game or the shit movies, they made it, it’s been long enough, give them their rights.

Let’s be honest, about 70% of the Predator we know, and about as much of its success, is due to John McTiernan and Stan Winston’s team. The original Thomas script was still quite different. Not to mention the Extended Universe, which the Thomas brothers didn’t really touch.

Dude Predator went from blockbuster to b movies. Not exactly success just because theyre not letting it die…

Youre talkin to the wrong guy about it though. Predator 1 remains the best in the franchise to me, never gave two shits about extended stuff or comics because I know it’s just a means to an end, and that end being the rights to someone else’s creation. The brothers did have the main stuff laid out like the clan of hunters so that wasn’t gonna change. All that matters is Disney must lose or we’ll keep getting watered down movies for a watered down culture lol

Predator has always been a B movie

Just because the first movie is the best for you doesn’t make you special. In my rating, for example, in order go Predator 2, Predators and the original.

The Thomas brothers, on the other hand, did really care. That’s why the second film took a lot from Verheiden’s comic book.

It was earlier in the Verheiden comic.

Disney makes quite good movies for quite normal audiences. By making such statements, you belittle the creativity of those talented people who work for the studio.
Much like the Star Wars fans who somehow forget that Favreau and Filoni created the Mandalorian… for Disney.

First Predator movie was not a B movie. You dont get Arnold in the 80s hot off Terminator to star in a throwaway script… it became a B series after 2.

I never said I was special but I’m flattered you’d assume I was.

The comic did not spawn the idea of the predator clan. That’s 100% the brothers idea, just like the Predator character itself.

Disney does not make good movies, they make politically charged movies and braindead movies to play everything as safely as possible and to appease their allies. Like China for example… because all Disney cares about is money. These guys cared about making something new, something original, and most of all something fun.

Them getting the rights to their creation back is not a matter of what movies you like or if you want more toys. It’s about two nobodies who created a cultural icon turned punching bag for strong wahmen, getting their idea back.

Get the mouse peen outta your mouth and think about the big picture of one company having a monopoly on media. One company that time and time again shows how ethically bankrupt it is… theyre not the good guys just cuz you like the star wars shows lmao

First Predator is literally a B movie.
