How is it not true? I said some, not all

You right. I did not read that correctly. My bad

How dare you.

As broad as this statement is, I think I get the point.

As far as the creature alone I think they’re bad ass. Yeah they’re simpler then other sci-fi franchises nowadays like Halo. Star Wars, Doom, etc. but for a character developed on the fly in the 80’s they’re pretty damn cool.

Being a technologically advanced race with a culture that’s very primitive and values the thrill of the hunt, taking trophies to prove themselves, and fighting to the death no matter what is awesome. Also the boogeyman-like reputation they have for always visiting different worlds mostly unseen and taking trophies is one of the coolest things about em, and how in the franchise they’re like an urban legend as they’ve been doing it for thousands of years.

However again if we were to square them up against nearly any other sci-fi character out there…yeah the predator would most likely get fuckin destroyed unfortunately…
Because in their own franchise they are meant to be the biggest fish in the ocean, but their ocean as a whole is pretty small as they’ve only ever have gone up against humans and now Wildlife like a bear. They were originally designed to show that even the best of human kind such as an elite spec ops team with Mr. Olympia as their leader is but cannon fodder compared to this hunter, but weren’t designed in mind to be fighting other super powered characters like Jedi from star wars. They aren’t like characters from DBZ where they always have a bullshit reason to constantly be gaining power and can destroy whole planets with a sneeze…they were originally simply made to kick our asses and thats it…

I like to think that if film directors, comic writers, and/or game developers were to take the Predators a step further and show us what they’re society is truly capable of, such as showing their military that isn’t bound by the honor code and perhaps just rules of Engagement and have access to possibly planet breaking technology, that we could eventually see Predators stand a chance against other franchises in a versus situation. If they did it in just the right way and opened up the mythos to show us the capabilities of their technology, physical prowess, etc. instead of always showing us the more or less basic hunter under hunting restrictions then maybe the Predator could be taken more seriously when squaring up against guys like Boba Fett🙄.

But as it sits right now with our original hunters…unfortunately yeah, they’re more and less basic and don’t stand a chance against almost every other sci-fi character.

Good post honestly.
However I don’t really agree with constantly pushing to get stronger so bullshit, like you said for dbz.

I enjoy seeing set power levels in a series but I enjoy seeing how far a character can keep advancing and pushing.

I’ve always hated weak basic shit though.

But I agree with you, that they could be made better through writing and such.

However I don’t really think they’re that skilled.
Like it’s way too many mistakes way too many times.
It cant be coincidence all the time.

I think the creators admit that sure they’re strong, but theyre just not gonna get that far.
They’re mentality is too straight forward to be able to truly advance.

However this can change with a different angle in the writing.

So my comment, applies more to as they are now, in the movies. Doesn’t really apply to the comics too much.
Heard some cool shits there.

You should look into working out, then attract a mate. Just don’t let them know what you do on these forums.

Oh honestly man, if they dont have a good sense of humor it wont work out.

So if they cant laugh at forum stuff would be pretty boring.

I also like dragon fruit drinks, and putting atomic fireballs jaw breakers into my Dr.Pepper and letting it settle within the Dr.Pepper.

That sounds horrible lmao.

This just ends up in predator killer suits and an alien invasion movie.

Monkey’s paw.

Tribal stuff is kind of their gimmick.
I don’t really get the point of giving Predators RPGs and tanks. Might as well be any other alien then.

I see what you’re saying but try to think outside the box of just what OUR military looks like, and lets especially keep Shane’s shitty movie out of the equation🤣.

AvP: Extinction showed us a glimpse of what military preds could look like, having predators in full armor like knights instead of partial armor like a standard hunter along with plasmacasters that straight up shoot explosive beams that act like a shower of napalm from a military jet, along with plama bladed weaponry that could cut through almost anything similar to a lightsaber. Like I said, if a movie director, comic writer, and/or game developer pulled it off in just the right way it could show us just what predators are truly capable when forced to treat something as a legit threat rather then just a hunt without just mimicking cliches like tanks and UFO’s abducting cows.

Im not saying that Predators should always be shown like this, but maybe just a short comic series or a single game/movie that gives us a showcase of their military, to show the species actual capabilities.

This is more or less just plasmacaster but bigger boom, and wristblades but they cut more

Its not really doing anything different. I think the closest thing we’ve gotten to not-hunting gear is Wolf using mines and his power glove thing.

I think you’re missing the point.

if you just give them wristblades-but-plasma its the same hunting gear, just powerwankery

I don’t think giving predators lightsabers is the move. Wolf was somewhat better in concept because he clearly wasn’t there on a hunt, laser mines and bulldozer glove would qualify as military ordinance on the ground I think. No one hunts with trip mines and C4. Shame about the whip though and only sending one pred because it makes it silly they sent one guy with some mines to clean up what they knew what would eventually be a huge infestation.

but tbh if they were really at war, they have spaceships with shielding. Just bomb the planet, solved. Doesnt really follow to have napalm casters or whatever.

I agree that “Powerwankery” isn’t very creative and shouldn’t be the difference between a hunter predator and a military predator, but that’s already been present with predators in the past.
Examples being a “smart disc” to a “shuriken”, City Hunters net-gun that trapped people to Feral’s “net-mine” that grounded up people. I mean hell, the super-predators from “Predators” are meant to be a power-up so to speak from the original.

I know I said to not compare the military predator idea to our military, but having better equipment overall is pretty much part of a society’s evolution. Like comparing us in the Revolutionary War with muskets and cannons, to present time with automatic weapons and drones that rain down a bombardment of hell. Basically the growth in tech and capabilities of a species involves being able to “shoot more” and “cut more” along with new technology and methods.

But yes, if a writer, director, etc were to explore that it’d obviously be better to be innovative and show us more then just powered up hunting gear.

And just bombing a planet from orbit isn’t gonna work every time, especially if the opposing species is more advanced then we are, so why not explore what predators look like when they aren’t on a hunt and have to address a legimate threat?

My point is let’s see a glimpse of what the predator’s actual capabilities look like when having to use them, what kind of technology they have beyond just the gear used for tourism on planets. And what a predator in their military would look like in combat versus a hunter from a hunting tribe, would they have more efficient training? Would they genetically be different compared to the hunters? And no I don’t mean like the CGI garbage from Shane.

If this was explored more then maybe the predator would be taken more seriously when compared to other franchises as well.

This will be my last entry on this topic as I dont really know how to explain this anymore then I already have.

Well they only sent one guys because that’s what elites and higher ranks are supposed to be capable of. They sent one guy because he’s capable of cleaning up a whole infestation even if they could’ve sent someone better since would clearly wasn’t in his prime anymore old scared and blind in one eye missing caster shots from far away but he still managed to do his job for the most part. None of the other predators in films that we saw in action were elite besides wolf

More basic than random unnamed mercenary dudes with pewpews and bang balls? Or the Dollar General Arnold ripoff? Lol nah bro.
