Revisiting PC low graphics Aug 2021

So I was browsing through the PHG streams today when I noticed someone using low graphics. I thought this would be a good opportunity to screen grab and make a few comparisons.

The first thing I noticed was the huge difference it makes with shadows disabled.

  • PS5

The last comparison is very interesting because there should be a structure in the background that doesn’t even seem to render.

I’ve seen your video. I think Gameplay might not be the best format for a comparison like this.

A run through of a map, using the same sight angles and path, on PC Low and PS5 would be easier to compare.

Also, getting long sightlines on high ground from both perspectives would also be useful, because we know that the PC snipers are going to make use of those type of spots.

Not really, even if a branch doesn’t render, it’s still there. You’ll find yourself hitting a lot of invisible branches on low graphics.

It’s better to play on high settings even for snipers imo.

Yeah I tried to run through as many visuals as I could for demonstration purposes but I didn’t do a straight 1 to 1 comparison

But this could be used to locate Fireteam players and second winded or uncloaked predators.

Ok, but whats the point when you can’t hit them because the whole jungle is in the way.

Idk this is a huge debate of preference only as low graphics offer little to no advantage.

I prefer high to epic settings because the game straight up looks like garbage on low settings.

Let them first optimize the game so that the fps is stable I need at least 60 fps so I play at low settings on medium settings the fps can fall to 40-50 it is not playable

I just named one. Maybe only a little advantage, but it can’t be none.

Honestly, I think the shadows should definitely be mandatory, and that can’t take up to much processing power.

Render distance equal to console should probably be mandatory as well, but I don’t know if that would take much more processing power or not.

I mean, I would say the biggest advantage would be the performance gained, because not everyone has a capable pc. But yes, I see how longer views can be advantageous.

shadows do not affect anything other than lighting. It makes everything look “uglier”, but that’s about it

The whole “I can see across the whole map” is related to the view distance setting. And honestly became pointless when a cloaked pred is completely invisible after 50 meters. Still benefits pred players when they are looking for FT members hiding in the bushes, but the rendering will eventually happen if you look at an area more than a few seconds, or if you get closer.

As for lowering shadows, the biggest advantage is the boost in FPS, though, tbh, once the match starts, effects quality, post processing and foliage quality are bigger offenders than shadows.

It could be a grenade adventure or a PC advantage.

Close enough only counts in grenades, horseahoes and PC 😁

I’ve also notice that you can’t set them all at the same level, as it seems one setting affects the other

For example, bumping up effects quality with shadows on low, will not affect your fps much, but bumping them with shadows on medium will drop your frames like crazy whenever there are explosions, fire, plasma, etc., because shadows, which control lighting, is also creating lighting for those effects

I run shadows on High, Textures on Cinematic, View Distance on Epic, AntiAliasing on Epic and foliage, effects and post processing on low. I get the most stable FPS with those settings, though on some maps it still drops a little below 60 sometimes

Here’s how the game looks on my end… not the best, but at least not bunkers and still a decent performance. I wish I could play with all cinematic settings, but the game is badly optimized

The difference between both setups is obvious there, but I think it will be only aesthetics that are affected, and maybe FPS. Before Illfonic updated cloak for preds it was the easiest way to snipe them from across the map, but now it will not do you any good.
TBH, I have no good judgment over this as I’ve only played once on low just to see how it is, and frankly game looks like garbage - I prefer my high settings

Waiting for someone else to start pointing out that there’s an actual furry on the pictures.

That’s how they stream. 🤷‍♂️

Post Process on MED i think is still good. It only adds a depth of field blur to the menu diarama (it does much less so in-game).
I didnt check how much frames are reduced, if you all could help me with that @Noktrum . Id like to know.
its one step below what makes frames tank which is the film grain.

LOL @ How people come gun toting to these threads.

Simply stating there is a difference. Never once said there was an advantage to it and people literally are losing their shit LMAOOO

Actions speak louder than words ;)

@SkooLBoY_SkePtiK great find!!!
