Samurai carried Katana and Wakizashi (Bastard Sword and Short Sword) set. Also Spears, Bows, etc. The nodachi (Great Sword) in history was very rarely used as it was exhausting to use in long lasting battles (according to accounts not my actual opinion).
As non-samurai and therefore of a social class to whom quality weapons were unavailable, MOST Ninja settled for using literally anything or scraps of anything they could get, lol.
In terms of Honor, both are heavily romanticized/vilified just like their Western counterparts. Ninja did use ‘disreputable’ tactics like assassination or guerilla warfare but only at the command of a Samurai lord who didn’t want to get his hands dirty but wanted to win no matter what. The ninja did in fact follow a VERY STRICT honor code of their own.
