Those claims are as old as the internet. I remember reading shit like that 30 years ago on forums, back when computers used dial-up modems to connect to the internet. Never read of someone actually had it happening.
In theory, the claims are based of real possibilities. And it is theoretically possible. However, it requires a very high level of expertise in multiple disciplines in order to bypass all the security measures needed to accomplish it. We are talking not only software securities, but literally hardware based securities that prevent a system from overloading and catching fire.
Modern CPU’s (and by modern, I’m talking about any CPU manufactured in the past 20 years) have hardware thermal securities that will make them fail before catching fire.
Can that be bypassed? Probably. Likely? Not.
Most hacking in the modern world doesn’t even involve someone sitting behind a desk trying to unencrypt some shit. Is easier (and faster) to fool someone into giving them your password than it is to try and guess it
