That’s because star wars has an actual tight leash on its lore and it fucks with Disney’s marketing. SW had an “official EU” that attempts to tell some kind of story. Predator does not and every single comic, novel, and peice of media have 0 consistency with eachother (in anything thats not a direct sequel ofc) because Fox doesn’t care and signs people on to do whatever and they’re all standalone so its not like it matters. Every single AvP game are under the official AvP license and the plots, timeframes, designs, and characters aren’t even remotely consistent.

Predator and AvP have both always been a wild west free for all because they are all standalone stories with Fox’s “everything is canon” approach as none of this was meant to be a big grand coherent cinematic marvel universe. Do preds have kill glands? Do they lay eggs? Hate climate change? Harvest autism? Have rocket launchers and iron man suits? Alien dogs? Are they slavers? Are they inviting people back to their planet and dressing them in armor because they did a cool thing? Engineer nanomachines? Does eating preds give you superpowers or doesn’t it?
Its a wild west free for all and probably will be forever because this isn’t star wars tier EU to begin with and nothing has any impact on what the next writer of the month does anyways. There’s no grand plan or star wars endgame here lol. Disney doesn’t give a damn either as they’re also just wanting to do silly crossovers.

Someone made a good point about wishing Fox would differentiate “stories of aliens vs predator,” avp, and pred canon just to get something that remotely resembled a shared universe & the plot could go places beyond just being weird set peices but probably unlikely to happen.

Although the alien in the first movie is credited as Kane’s son, Ridley Scott the man himself says they are neither male nor female. By your own standards I think that whole thing has been retconned for awhile and multiple times.

And @James-Cameron comparing them to bees because he didn’t get to direct his starship troopers movie was always lazy.

Perhaps Aliens has, but pure Predator stuff on film (and apparently this game) is pretty straight forward. The books don’t count. It is what it is. I hated the last film, but its here now. I didn’t like Hayden Christiansen, but he’s Darth Vader. It is what it is.

Over half of that listed comics + games + movies, not the books. Alien is the series with straightforward lore that’s trying to tell a story, though Scott’s retconnected elephant men, 3+ movies, and the alien itself but he conceptualized the franchise to begin with. Preds is literally all over the place kind of like how alien was with a different writer each comic/movie before someone actually steps in to take the reins. It’s random bits rather than a continuity. What we have here is a Shadow of Mordor situation and likely won’t be referenced ever again unless super dutch and 2 paragraphs worth of tapes (which is literally the only thing the game has given us with any barebones sembalance of a plot) are an incredible hit with the masses. Remember Alien: colonial marines? And that was a whole campaign.

Alright so the books don’t count, yet there’s a novel for this game thats probably the closest thing to a supporting plot that its going to get? Which is it?

Someone spent time writing a novel for this game?!?!? I never made it past 20 mins of Aliens CM. It sucked that badly. After Aliens, the series takes a huge nose dive into ridiculous territory. The first 3 predator films follow a cohesive narrative. Its 4 that throws it. And thats what we’re looking at here. Films and this one game recognized as Canon. Ridley Scott then returned and dropped a turd in the punch bowl by almost removing the Queen alien entirely. Sure, that can still be fixed, but we have what we have. You don’t get your she-hulks. At least for the time being. You’re just gonna have to find a way to live with that.

Stalking Shadows. Its pretty awful and the internal monologues are painful but yes it exists and is a prequel to the game.

Starts at the end of P2 except the clan ship is underground and after harrigan’s departure the ship basically explodes from underground to take off killing hundreds of people and turning a populated residential area into a crater because lol.
Dutch chokes out the generic special forces main guy in the crater investigating. As soon as main character wakes up he immediately goes on a drug cartel mission in a jungle and its the stereotypical story from there.

Dutch does kill a fast preddy boi in malaysia. Then they go to mexico and kill another who’s ship was downed. And two more in venezuela, lots of people die etc etc And the rest is just the tapes from the game. His next operation is supposed to be in china but we’ll see if anything in this story comes up again ever

Aliens colonial marines was also recognized as canon.
Might be a bit of a leap declaring 80% of predator material non-canon with no word on that and just leaving 3 movies and a game.

20th century fox owned the film rights to Alien and Predator. Disney bought fox. Not merged. Bought it outright. They own it, but I hear he is wanting to finish it off.

Distribution rights =/= production. He didn’t sell off Scott Free like george sold off LucasFilm. Disney OWNS Star Wars because George signed off and sold it, making lucasfilms a subsidiary of Disney.

Honestly the Emissary would make a fantastic addition to Fireteam. That’s definitely something that players would be interested in. Friendly Predators are a thing already and it’d definitely help queues further if either side had the option to run a Predator.

It’d even be a way of getting Bad bloods into the mix since the Emissary would presumably be rogue agents. So of course a Hunter would kill them on sight. They could even do some stuff with Dutch given how apprehensive he is to keeping a captured Predator alive. They’d even make sense why voodoo drops them in the way they do. Stargazer flings everything they have to get potentially five Predators and you have to kill all of them for the sake of the mission and that you probably shouldn’t be spotted. I’m 100% down with that suggestion.

stupid and dumb idea from shane black who never understood the predator franchise in the first place and only remembered from the 1th movie the jokes and the fact that there is a big alien monster. there is a reason why arnold never wanted to play in shane black movie and this thing is one of many, so yeah no.

Sure, but contracts are still in place. Until those expire (and lets face it, Scott will likely expire before the contracts do), he can’t go through another studio just yet, unless there’s some kind of sony/disney/Spiderman type deal.

He has the script ready already so I can’t imagine this decision takes too long. Just negotiating with disney for a greenlight to see what they’re willing to cover and if not then someone else will be distributing, he has other distributors it just depends if Warner can cut him a better deal than Disney.
I doubt scott would ever consider selling off production rights of alien to Disney or blade runner to Warner for any amount of money, even if he died. He approved 2 alien movies but that was before the death of his brother. Scott has a personal connection with Alien at this point, it’s essentially his legacy. George Lucas fucked up and could’ve taken a break too instead of selling out. Its kind of sad when he refers to star wars as his baby and then JJ arbrams and Rian release garbage. If you can’t trust a corporate entity to do right by your franchise then you die with it until it becomes public domain after we’re all dead lol.

We’ll still have AvP in the meantime though as its its own IP and not just a crossover deal.

Yup. All I wanted to do was suggest to the devs a nice, reasonable idea that many people could get behind, and here’s Finesswhatever to throw a wrench into it. (HEAVING SIGH…)

I stand by my idea. Aliens, James Cameron, Fenagleology have nothing to do with this. All talk of Aliens and discussions of the merits of boob armor are hereby invalidated.
