That right there.
Why would they charge for a mode? They’ve already stated new modes and maps will be free. This will likely be the case for all but one exception I can think of.
Look, I’m not annoyed at you in particular but I am annoyed. The game is going to add things over its life time, it’s a service game. If they ever do get into trouble, odds are they will add aliens (Xeno’s) in some form or fashion maybe as a payed Dlc expansion (this is the exception I can imagine) that is more expensive than a regular Dlc but then they’ll likely be playable. If they aren’t playable, I doubt they would garner the sales and so might be just an unpaid expansion.
I don’t think we will get all the characters simply because the likeness rights would be too expensive. I do think we will get at least a couple more are in our future, as to which ones I don’t know.
I don’t think paid human characters and Pred’s are the only thing they can or will be sold as Dlc. Unfortunately the game needs more mechanics, modes and a progression system before any guessing as to what form it will take.
There’s so much that they are likely working on that we just don’t know. Hell I’m still waiting to find out if we’re going to have events, they are an important part in breaking up any tedium that builds in your player base. They don’t even need to be that well constructed, look at Dbd’s, they’re barebones additions that add little but grind. They do get people grinding though and they provide the ability to choose interesting activities during a match for a short time. That’s the part they do best by the way, the fact that they’re events don’t force you to do them, they’re optional bonus objectives.
The balance will be different in 6 months, the number of assets they have to build maps will grow, new layers will be added to the experience. Hopefully a more fleshed out progression system will exist by then. It’s going to be a long slow climb though.
Last thing, about game sales. The game will have bursts of new players, whether because of events or special sale prices. Either one is good, Dbd has spent years having sales and giving their game away because at certain points having active players was more important than game sale. At this point they can recoup the money via Dlc over a few months. They’ve done an excellent job overall, learning to lean one income source on another. It took years to gather enough characters and dlc that people would have enough options to recoup the cost off of though. PHG will get there, it’s going to take time.
