Underrated and/or Forgotten Movies

Its out right now , I seen it was up online with the proper copy as I think it went straight to streaming .

Its crazy to think that the thing flopped , but it is one of the best movies in cinema history, to me at least

Off to the pirate Bay I go lol

Yeah for such an inspirational and culturally significant figure in film, he really did not do well in his prime. I couldn’t really understand it until I rewatched Vampires. Dude thinks up ‘what would be cool’ and just does it. No focus on diving into characters backgrounds or big payoffs at the end, it’s just here’s your characters and here’s your plot, it’s cool, enjoy.

Highly recommend this, it has Evan Rachel Wood from Westworld in it

Vampires was good , the sequels were shit. I think the only movie of his that i didn’t enjoy was ghosts of Mars, i dont know what the fuck he was going for .

Ghosts of Mars was originally written as the third Snake Plisskin movie, it was essentially Snake in space but for one reason or another it didn’t happen that way. Kurt Russel has said they were gonna call it Escape From Earth.

There was also a Snake Plisskin game made for PS2 that was ready for release but was canned for… whatever stupid corporate opinion as usual.

I dont think even the russel could have saved that movie

Sweet!

Gonna be my bedtime story!

Man imagine a Hideo Kojima Guyver game🤯

Well it wasn’t gonna be what it became had they kept the original idea of a third escape from… movie. Not saying Escape From LA was great, but regardless whatever they had originally planned woulda been better. Maybe Snake vs space gangs vs aliens, I dunno.

Unfortunately I don’t think Kojima likes Hayter very much as he had him re-audition for every game lol. Still, it’d be sweet to see him do something more fast paced and action oriented. I skipped the fuck outta Death Stranding.

Yea I stranded that game the moment I saw it

When I saw it was a literal walking simulator with a balancing mechanic where you might fall over I just shook my head in disappointment. All that build up, all that hype… for Mailman: The Game.

I believe Kojima and Hayter were buddies, the casting was maybe just protocol let’s say; only thing was not having him as Snake in Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain, but there was a pretty good reason behind that change (even if people started to rumor about a divergence between them, it doesn’t make much sense to me).
Hayter also wrote the first two X-Men, that were great imho.

Anyway,
Carpenter’s Vampires is so good, I love it, both the Escape too
Ghost From Mars I really liked but it was a little bit off compared to other works of him yeah,
still a decent movie for me.

BaBam! Numerous good to neat pulp films, Dick Tracy being the best. Amazing cast, well directed and award worthy makeup and accuracy to the source material. Even good new characters introduced. 4 stars.

The Rocketeer is Timothy Daltons best film. It’s a fun Indy/Capt Merca-esque period piece. Jennifer Connely in a great role as well (please, for goodness’ sake, SKIP Requiem for a dream. Her role will make you so depressed, you’ll beg to go blind).

The Phantom isn’t all that good, but the set work and accuracy/faithfulness to the source material is to be commended. Had it been Lucas, Spielberg or Zemekis directing, it would’ve been a huge hit. Billy Zane really gave it all he had, as he’s a super fan of the character.

The Shadow is on the same level as the Phantom. It was trying to cash in on the Batman train after Burton knocked it out of the park. Alec Baldwin plays a good ne’er do well Lamont Cranston and Ian McKellan is always enjoyable. The Shadow costume and makeup is perfection.

Darkman is a goofy-ass Shadow knock off from Sam Raimi starring Liam Neeson before he learned to act, but its funny in all the wrong ways.

Ever watch the anime?

As a kid, i remember watching something guyver where in the begining a huge zoanoid (could palm a guyver) rips the unit out of guyver’s head. I don’t know what happens afterwards but all that i googled and watched doesn’t have this clip. Maybe you know.

These are all part of what made the 90s the greatest time period in America.

No he’s actually spoken about it. I think Kojima tried to get Kurt Russel to be Snake in 3, but pretty much had no choice but to rehire Hayter.

Vampires was indeed great. I thought it was the best movie ever when I saw it as a kid.

I haven’t seen the anime , but in both movies the guyver unit gets ripped out. The anime is maybe called mutronics (its foreign name)
