The issue with therapy is that they have to seek it and they won’t. Which is why people are kept in mental hospitals.

All the deterrent in the world isn’t going to stop someone with low impulse control from seizing an opportunity, and that’s the problem when it comes to “re-conditioning.”

You’re probably right. Maybe in the future there wi be technology that can detect impulse in the hormone level of blood and release some kind of inhibition. Not there yet

Those that are making progress in the hospital may be given a chance. But if hospitalization is the best way that we have right now that that’s the way it is

Unfortunately we aren’t much better at it then America is. Prisons aren’t as populated but the system does very little to help people post prison.
The Canadian prison system does provide educational opportunities but it still hard to find honest work if you’re a con.

Homelessness is an issue that could be fixed but Mith isn’t actually that far off the truth in this case. The system is set up to keep people in place, if you end up on welfare, it’s a treadmill. You run and run but never get off… for most people anyway, I was on welfare off and on during my late teens. I was never homeless but that had more to do with my determination to always have a safe place to sleep then anything else. It meant paying rent even if I couldn’t then afford food, my friends (and their parents) are the only reason I didn’t starve.
Mental health services and counselling need to be made free if we ever do want to change it, it’s very hard to make good decisions if you’re living hand to mouth.

Good to hear that you persevered and had people that supported you. Everyone can use a little help now and then.

Too bad that prison population and poverty/homelessness seems like it a necessity to this society.

Even though there are shortcomings in those areas, i don’t get a feel that Canada has the superpower complex of usa and would care about the people more with more robust social programs. Does it have issues with greed or corruption? Or us it more of a capitalist mindset where people need to earn what they are getting?

It’s not that it couldn’t be better or even cheaper then it is now. Things like welfare are argued over constantly, it’s always one step forward, one step back. You pointed out earlier that reintegrating and reform of former prisoners means they become contributing members of society.
Personally I think we should move towards a system that only houses dangerous offenders in traditional prisons and others in monitored communities where they have to work and maintain a semblance of society. That way reintegration is easy and they can even have skills/money to be successful.
Welfare in both our countries needs an overhaul. No one in a first world country should be forced below the poverty line to the point of hopelessness.

Prison reform is easier then welfare, we have working examples from other countries, in turn it removes the burden that prisoners unwilling put on the welfare system.

Agreed on the incarceration of dangerous criminals and community rehab for others as well as a safety net to avoid poverty.

I remember that was talk about basic universal income - housing, clothing, food perhaps, while for all else you have to work for. But i bet there would be people that would be comfortable with this and not motivated to go any further. Loop holes would be found to get cash from this too, i feel. So not many people support it

UBI needs to happen at some point. There’s ways to find it in a capitalist society. Just means everyone needs to be a capitalist for it to work. Which means owning a non-sellable stock that guarantees an income that meets basic needs. Could be attached directly to your SIN number.

This isn’t socialism by the way before someone claims it is. It’s a more complete version of capitalism. You’re only a capitalist if you have capital, own land, a business or the stock/deed that represents ownership of something, that creates more capital. Most of us aren’t capitalists, someone else merely pays you for your labour, or you own so little as to make your capital irrelevant.

We can’t trust people not to scam the system but we can take direct access away from those that do. They’ll still have that income, it will merely be limited in what it can buy. Mith will hate it.

I think i would give that a try. At least for some folks, if they don’t have to worry about the basics, they’ll achieve more and be mentally healthier people

As long as there’s no way to barter those basic privileges. Like rent your living quarters to someone for cash or trade the food allowance for cash (like is done with food stamps)

Though if everyone will have those basics, noine should be in need of other folks’ share

Universal basic income will become a reality in the near future and it will only serve to make people more dependent on the government. This Corona bs is already getting people accustomed to getting “free” money from the government. Germany is already doing trials with universal basic income.

On the surface it will look like something that benefits the common people but it will be used against people. You can compare it to the social credit score that China already has. If the government doesn’t like what you do or don’t think you’re a “good” citizen then they can just stop giving you money and take away some of your privileges.

The world is going downhill and there isn’t much anyone can do to stop it.

Watch a bunch more episodes of attack on titan, and I have a few questions

SPOILERS

does a titan turn back to human form at will? They were speculating if Lord Rice would do so if he at Jagher.

Yup, one if the concerns that I had. Plus, if it’s an electronic system, it can always be hacked. Mass chaos ensues

Digital currency is easier to control by governments, that’s why cash is better. We’re going to enter a cashless society soon.

When the blackout happens, that’s when you’ll see real chaos.

Im sure there’ll me a few backup systems and such. There are think tanks for things like these and all try to account for all the possible mishaps. Still dangerous, but we’ll be making that bridge anyway

No they have to eat another shifter, and titans with royal blood are more problematic. Rod reiss’s titan is an abnormal bigger than the collosal titan presumably because of both his royal blood and incorrect injection of the serum. Only shifters can turn at will but they require a specific goal when doing so. Having a goal before being injected seems to have some effect on pure titans too, some just wander aimlessly outside the walls trapped in a nightmare.

so he can’t turn back? Or is there a condition that will make him turn back upon fullfiling it?

eating jaeger or another shifter is the only thing that would turn him back.
Pure titans and abnormals are eating humans out of some combination of instinct and desperation to return to human form, on the chance they happen to eat a titan shifter. No one’s totally sure.

so i was thinking that they could have prepared for this, though at the time it seemed like they were lacking info. The probably killed a shifter before and could have killed a titan before and drained his spinal fluid. Then injected it into rod reiss’ total to turn him back to human form.

They don’t have the technology to create the syringes. Shifter spinal fluid evaporates in contact with air and there’s a correct dosage that’s needed. Too little and your titans a freak, too much and they’re too human - or maybe vice versa? Pretty sure you need all of it from a shifter so they’re confirmed dead and can pass the titan to someone else. And trying to subdue a shifter when they’re capable of regenerating from pretty much anything just makes it impractical and dangerous compared to just having someone eat the shifter.

Almost at the end of season 3. Mostly i feel good about the show, but i do not like the gap in knowledge or undetranding between the two sides. Both want to end the war. Titans know something but don’t want to reveal it to the humans, even though humans are willing to negotiate. There’s probsbly some dilemma at the center of all of this, like maybe when humans kill all titans, then they turn on each other and both races die. Humans can’t know about this so the state of war is perpetuated. Titans know but want the war to end and if they die, humans will follow, so they think it’s better to destroy the humans so the titans don’t die needlessly. It also sucks they Rod Reiss’ cousin knew the truth and wouldn’t tell anyone. Makes for a great story i guess, but still kinda sucks.
