Why is everyone so viciously dismissive of customization?

I’m gonna be honest illfonic…
I’m really baffled with y’all when it comes to customization. On the one hand there’s an almost overwhelming amount of skins, and colors to choose from for both sides. Which was initially impressive. I was initially very happy I had pre-ordered. I was initially very impressed that there were girl predators too. The Jungle Hunter 87 skin being gender locked didn’t seem indicative of a looming pattern, and it didn’t bother me because the girl scout (lol), huntress, and girl berserker all looked phenomenal. Scout was a bit skimpy on dress, but the boy scout looks twinky and exhibitionist in his outfit too so 🤷‍♀️ I was all for it.

When Dutch dropped I excitedly suggested to my girlfriend we both get him, because during the few moments we are playing fireteam together it’s just THAT fun, and amusing to get a whole team of Dutch to us. Also, we genuinely wanted to give y’all what looked like needed support, because honestly y’all are getting HOSED by critics. You’re being carried by fan love. The fans of this franchise are many, and they don’t always get along, but they all love this LP fiercely for their own unique reasons so much that we all collectively fly like moths to a flame while people are actively advising us to not give you our time, or money. Think about that. That’s pretty powerful. Please be responsible with that.

But I digress, to be honest we don’t play much FT together, and my GF has a hard time playing FT or even Predator due to a lot of buggy combat…and I have a hard time convincing her to even help me grind daily and weekly goals. Even in private match.
Which is almost all we play now because the toxicity is extra repellent to the women in the fandom. Doesn’t matter if we’re cis, trans, straight or LGBTQIA, or a combo of things (like both trans and lesbian for example).

But aside from the general bugginess, and toxicity in matches, and on the forum though? It REALLY WAS the growing trend of gender locked customization that has reared its ugly sexist head that was the final nail in the coffin for her. As I write this I’m conflicted, because I WANT to ask my GF to get me City Hunter. The second I heard it’s unique roar I was like “Fuck!..i want this…, but I don’t want to want this, because I’m 99.9% certain its gender locked just like Elder, Samurai, and Alpha that preceeded it.”

It was also rather jarring to see the alpha mask available for the girl preds, but not the alpha predlocks (which would have made way more sense to make as an aesthetic choice available IF you had to force me to pick between choices, which I don’t want anyone to have to do either).
I also can’t be alone in hoping still that ONE DAY we see the Samurai Predator armor as a selectable option for girl preds, and other mix/mash options. Please try to find a better balance between player choices/options and Canon?

Elder Pred being gender locked seemed kinda weird to me. Seemed logical to me that Elder was a gender neutral term…and I can’t see why a badass granny pred wouldn’t be just as awesome to play as the badass grandpa pred.

Samurai Pred being gender locked was also really weird to me. Logic seems to suggest the predators are quite social. Wouldn’t there have been a lot of bragging, and “Hey everyone! Come check out THIS part of this planet, and these badass prey i found!” going on once the first Samurai Predator returned anywhere in his home territory in the galaxy?
There’s over 1000 years of Samurai history with many myths, legends, and actually historic women Samurai, and those that blurred the lines of gender as well.

Hell, I’m about to blow everyone’s minds. Albert Cashier was a trans man who fought against the South in the Civil War. He lived from 1843-1915.
Chevalier D’eon was a trans woman who lived from 1728-1810. Look em up if you want some impressive examples of people refusing to allow their birth parts get in the way of their lived truths.
Trans people are as old as the flintlock pistol trophy you can unlock, and older.

The Alpha predators kinda goofy looking if you ask me, but I’d be curious to see an attempt at making an alpha female. Alpha pairs are a thing in nature, and there’s 0 reason to believe the concept is locked to male, or that penis means male OR Alpha. Hell, the hyena females on this planet have a phallic clit, and dominate the males in their packs. Nature, and science is weird. Let sci-fi be weird too.

Ghost is the official name of the City Hunter from 97? Am I mistaken here? Seems almost understandable why many of you would have have a conniption at the mere suggestion of a female city hunter…but honestly it seems BEYOND silly to me that there wouldn’t be scores of preds who decided to wear similar to near identical gear eventually. There’s just no reason I see for ANY of this.

Without transparency there’s no way to even be sure they have more girl pred content on their time tables, but way to be a dick about it? It’s called “the straw that broke the camels back” for a reason

I’m not gender dropping myself, but I remind everyone that just because I’ve got a girlfriend it isn’t a guarantee that I am a dude.
I’ve seen lots of people complaining about issues with controls, and combat and interface making things very hard for them and they aren’t told “go play WoW.” That was definitely sexist as fuck.
The game handles poorly. That’s a fact. I’ve read so many threads where people are admitting that their friends are refusing to join them because of how bad the experience looks from the outside looking in. They aren’t told to “chill and go give their gf a footrub.” Also it’s disingenuous to assume I’m not chill, or that even if I wasn’t that somehow gives good cause to dismiss what I write. If that’s all you’ve got to say kindly go post somewhere else?
Just because some of you are single, or aren’t getting laid doesn’t mean you should take that out on me here.

  1. They’re character skins. Based on characters. Female pred from dutch’s lore will get one eventually and be gender locked given the past DLCs and I expect you to be there and angry.

  2. More importantly have to make a 2nd model with predator boobs and fit the armor for predator boobs which is lowest of the lowest low on the priority list even if you think that would make your girlfriend want to run daily challenges with you or you both ERP in private matches or w/e

The differences between male and female predator models are so low effort i would assume being able to derive joy from one and not the other is due to a certain amount of mental gymnastics.

I am not personally invested in needing specific representation of all possible genders and races myself. I couldn’t be bothered to not have a male lara croft variant or a cj in san andreas that wasnt black. Where does that trend end?

Regardless the source material for predator is some of the most testosterone fueled stuff and if you want more twink predator models i mean do you even know wtf predator is?

Cant you just RP a butch flat chested female city hunter?

Anyway you do you, if they add these things in for you it wouldnt bother me in the slightest but im more mind blown by requiring this of a predator game than any of your fun facts about early trans people.

I use my imagination all the time to pretend my predator isnt missing fucking textures or constantly having a bad hair day. But you know what it does upset me so part of me does feel you. But that is mostly being upset at illfonic for being incompetent.

You should stop assuming people’s ignorance, nothing in the OP was new information to me. Not the Trans individuals (who were far from the first or only trans people in history), not the stuff about hyenas. Not even the stuff about you.

I would also like to be able to put the Alpha (this means first) Predator’s hair on the female predator models. I don’t think JH or CH need female models but am not against it. Samurai, Alpha and Elder (Could be modelled after a character in part two, but that shouldn’t stop there being a female equivalent), should all get female models at some point.

You maybe right about alpha,samurai etc but if we come to Jungle hunter and city hunter, they are iconic characters as Dutch so they are what they are just try to enjoy with your gf.

Samurai predator: I really can’t tell you why this has no gender options. I’m sure they’ll add it eventually. It would be nice to be able to have that armour on female preds. But it’s not too big of a deal.

Elder: Elder despite his name, is actually a character from predator 2 called greyback. Exact same design. Having him genderlocked makes sense because he’s a character from the movie. It’ll be like having a female Dutch. It’d just feel…odd.

City hunter: exact same reason for elder predator. Him being genderlocked makes sense.

Alpha: This one, although not in any movie, is a character of its own. He has his own backstory and to change his gender, wouldn’t fit with that backstory.

As for their armours and predlocks, I don’t see why there’s no option for it. But I’ll bet they’ll add them eventually. At the moment, it’s really not that big of a deal.
