About new Prey movie

OG cloverfield was his magnum opus

I think he put out that garbage Super 8 right after. dudes a hack, but most directors are too proud to do found footage films.

Sounds like your typical horror movie. Again there’s not enough detail.

Hell this kind of undermines your point. You said

But now

Your first premise cuts out the actual story and antagonist. And you still don’t go into enough detail.

You went from one vague premise into another vague premise.

Besides there’s no point in arguing this since we’re at a stalemate.

I trust drinkers view and as stated in the tagged video he like the film aside from the ending which I have to say

Yes

Depends on marketing. American horror story is a bunch of unrelated stories aside from one season which was blasted for being bad anyways. So is the goosebumps series. And so are anthology series.

The tie ins may be dumb but a bad ending doesn’t equate a bad film. Especially when it appears to be a Cloverfield problem, not a director problem which is the conversation focus.

I feel like endings are tough to nail in general. I almost never like them, yet can’t present one that i like either. It’s weird.

Predictible - bad, too far off - bad, unpredictable - also bad, hero wins - bad. I think i sometimes like the ones where villains win, if the villain is kinda misunderstood/does good for bad reasons or heroes win by low odds/miracle.

Well TBF from what’s being described and drinkers point it actually sounds like a crap ending.

It’s the meat of the film I question.

Agreed. I just feel that the ending could make the movie, but it shouldn’t be something to destroy it.

It does when its advertised as a sci-fi and the only sci-fi is in the last inch of the film?

Who pays attention to the genre tags? You go to the description. Even if your looking under sci-fi the description should tip you off.

Besides that’s entirely a separate point under the bait and switch not the ending being bad.

A film is good or bad on it’s own merits for what it is. Bait and switch is a moral matter with the company.

Its a giant monster/alien franchise and instead you get a shittier version of Split with a dumb ending.

yes if you mystery box the whole movie people expect an ending for sitting through an hour of nothing

So it goes from macro to micro, or at least into the future. I dont remember the movie well, but something is going on outside even before the alien scene. You don’t see any people (except for one or two). I think it builds tension and suspense we’ll cause you don’t know if the guy is nuts or for real. The ending sucks when ship is destroyed, but i think they still pulled one on everybody cause it did seem like the guy was nuts. They went over the top a bit, but it kinda works because you have to considering that you were pulled so hard in the other direction.

tagged as sci-fi
making the mystery box pointless from the start

no one was watching this and like ā€œhaha if theres nothing outside in this CLOVERFIELD MOVIE what a great ending that would beā€ because it would somehow be even more disappointing

Your critisms, outside of the ending, are that the movie is a vague premise.

That’s not a critism.

I agree in part. It goes micro scale. It still works because you know there are ā€˜monsters’ from first movie, you just don’t get to see them till the very end. Not necessarily bad. It’s a trick within a trick.

I do remember being let down and kinda started laughing at the end. I don’t think it’s a bad movie tho. Average at least.

Who cares

OK again, please address my point

The ending is shit

HOW DOES THAT MAKE THE ENTIRE MOVIE BAD

if you can’t answer that then your point is mute

And again, what the fuck is wrong with an anthology series?

I’m making points and being ignored here.

name 1 good mystery thriller that reveals the mystery at the very inception of the movie?

wtf is the point lmao?
to watch plot armor protag make determined faces at the camera?

Having seen first pred when I was very young, even though the yautja was an exciting villain, i was still happy Dutch won. I didn’t overanalyze back then. Having seen all 5 movies expect for 2018, now i want pred to win so badly. Weird how that is.

Would Host qualify (giant lizard monster)? It’s been in my mind lately and I’m do for a rewatch.

Sometimes they reaver only to confuse you

Weak premise, weak ending = shit movie

only if you remove the monster from it entirely like 10 cloverfield lane did til the last minutes of the film and just make a character drama
