Precisely, so we won’t know till we die.
Bible advice needed 2nd attempt
It depends on the evidence, actually.
What counts as evidence here may be, as @Finessology pointed out, completely irrelevant in another dimension/whatever the fuck happens after death lol
Science begs to differ.
The idea of the soul resides in the mind of the one…
there is nothing that can be scientifically proven that anyone has a soul at all… it is by that gathered evidence that there is no such thing as a soul at this time.
nothing… we just rot away in the ground or blow away in the wind
Science can’t prove that either. Science also can’t explain the existence of self-awareness or perception, or consciousness for that matter. There is plenty that science can’t and probably won’t explain, and that’s why I personally made the shift to a belief system. But sure, atheism is what I originally subscribed to, and it makes sense. I would just recommend you think about it some more. What most atheists don’t realise is that considering science as the be-all and end-all, means that we are in essence biological automnotons, evolved from amoebas borne of a series of freak self-replicating chemical reactions. Thus, we would have no free will or consciousness. Life would indeed be an illusion, as all we are and all we do is simply the product of chemical reactions in our brain. There’s no free will, no consciousness, simply purposeless self-replication.
Self-awareness in its meaning is knowing your self to be alive.
Data and ‘The Doctor’ from Star Trek are for one an example of obtained self-awareness…
And just because I am a man of science… lets bring up Darwinism and the theory of evolution…
Define ‘life’. How are we any different from robots? The only difference is the complexity of the chemicals and atoms that make up us and our processors.
And I was indeed referring to the theory of evolution when I made my statement lol
For one… we think and do things for our self. A robot requires programing from its user. Hell… even AI needs some kind of program and algorithm to come up with a solution. Even then… it cant answer every question for you.
No we don’t. Our brains are biological CPUs that determine our actions and prime directives. The brain is what makes one horny, or angry, and automatically makes us breath. It determines everything we do, and if you genuinely believe in atheism then free will is an illusion for you. Robots require programming for now, but in the forseeable future robots will be able to programme and replicate themselves, just as humans and other animals do. If ‘life’ stemmed from evolving from single-celled organisms, think just how simplistic those organisms must have been in the first place. Easily possible that they are the product of a freak chain reaction in the right environment. Nowadays, life generally assumes that single cells make up part of a larger whole. What, then, seperates us from animals, or from cells, or from the chemicals those first organelles were made up of? Humans are chemical constructs, and the idea that ‘life’ or free will exists is an illusion. As I’ve said, if you belive that you have free will, then by extention you must believe that there’s some separate sort of ‘soul’ in the body. Otherwise, you’re lying to yourself. Just because a pile of chemicals can walk and eat, doesn’t mean it’s anything more than a pile of chemicals.
Life has its own energy independent from the brain.
Like organisms without centralized nervous systems. We know a Starfish isn’t a rock despite not having a brain, we can kill it. The starfish may not be that aware of its existence, but that’s besides the point.
Development of the mind just assists in conceptualizing the “I.” Plato’s cave etc.
Toddlers cannot recognize themselves in a mirror until atleast age 2.
I think the degrees of freedom of the mind I was talking about before (that we technically shouldn’t be capable of if we’re akin to robots) exist somewhere outside that and we’re able to pull from it. Through those quantum vibrations and whatnot divine energies if you will, not adhering to our classical physics. Life, spirit, soul, etc. Brain is a form of transmitter. Even Einstein had good things to say about Buddism and philosophy, I don’t think there’s any insight to be gained from discounting religion simply because it’s outside our percieved reality. Living in spiritual ignorance is just vapid materialism.
Again, that’s why i made the switch away from atheism lol
It can’t explain self-awareness or the concept of life.
Yep. Also from experience, it’s rather depressing even for someone like me.
First of all. Greetings my brethen. 👽Never did I say Satan did it. If you realize the truth as a follower of Christ then you know in your heart the truth. Satan was ALLOWED to. Even further out while he is being allowed to fuck with us The Lord God Almighty is still sovereign. Even so… Christ took all our sins and spread them as far as the east is from the west.
Dude
It’s been 4 months since this thread was active
Yes. It has. Not a life death situation for you it seems like symbiote.
Hey, just sayin
I know. Me too. Trying to keep up with the questions brought up during that time. I spoke peace and came back and a lot of strange answers I got back. I’ll start with @TheAlmightyJim
Ah, reading through this thread.
Back when @TheAlmightyJim and @Fire would have good intellectual sparring matches instead of the current bickering (or they’re both teaming up in a very elaborate scheme to troll me, in which case S tier job fellas, but I would more enjoy some good scientific discussions in the science thread).
Hey its more my fault he didnt understand what was said and tried making it into something it wasn’t and isnt mature enough to admit he made a mistake.
And fuuuuuck you I tried squashing that several times.
Anyhow, @Overhere13:
First off, that’s an oxymoron - if satan didn’t do it, how is it his fault?
Even if it is satan inflicting suffering on us, why is he allowed to? Just to give us someone to blame, or is there some other ulterior motive?
