You’re not wrong about the quality in both MOTU and 2014 (2014 needed more though. Just like 10 more mins, thats all. Not an hour. The most egregious use of smoke/dust/debris ever too.) . Both are good, but the only tension I ever felt was in 2014, since it was brand new, and the adversaries were new, but since G hadn’t used atomic breath up to that point, I was pretty sure (and was correct) he’d come out on top.
But I can’t agree or even concede to you on GvK. We’re gonna have to agree to disagree. Mecha G rolls G for a while in nearly every film he’s in. That’s the point of him. GvK isn’t a slap fest. Its so similar to KOTM on almost every level, it’s silly. You’re just being The Butthurtman. There’s plenty of scale to be had. Every single shot doesn’t NEED juxtaposition with humans. Did you complain about that in the Showa, Heisei or Millenium series? I bet not. But whatever. Like what you like, I say. Except your love of Little Ceasars. Does every bit of juxtaposition have to last 30 seconds or do the established shots do the job? I say the latter. But I get it, you hate the hollow earth bits. Did you hate them in KOTM too? I liked them both. Wish KOTM had more. That sunken city looked sick

Hollow Earth subplot was fine in KOTM, established mythology and made monsters feel ancient.
GvK made it goofy as all hell. They take a space elevator gravity well to the earth’s core to retrieve a plot device axe after running a million miles across an empty landscape before godzilla blows up the room because he saw the movie was already halfway over and kong had to get back out somehow.
Hollow earth should’ve been worldbuilding and instead it was just an excuse to go from point A to B & have a fight in hong kong with neon lights. kong throne room with the magical hollow earth godzilla shaped light show on the floor equation they download & bluetooth to mechagodzilla/ghidorah cyber skull or whatever the hell ENOUGH. I wouldnt have been surprised if they just introduced time travel halfway through the movie at that point. Sunken city had a valuable level of restraint.

Nah bro. I disagree with her thoughts about SP and a few other bits but she be 110% on GvK. Like it was exciting to FINALLY have that trailer, and first viewing was incredible and I read all the ridiculous spoilers before finally getting to the real ones and I was rather hyped. But. It doesn’t hold up to repeat viewings, it pretty much destroys the grounded, realistic world G14 was attempting to build, and the human plots other than Kong’s side are trash. I liked Madison from KOTM, I felt she had a lot of potential, but they ruined her and pushed her dad aside to nothing when he was supposed to pretty much be the new Serizawa.
Do yourselves a favor. Go look up the original SDCC proof of concept trailer for G14 back in 2012. Then watch the very first teaser trailer for G14. Feel that energy, that hype, that scale. Then go watch the GvK trailer. I promise you, you’ll feel sick to your stomach when you think about what could have been.

I remember the simpler times when we would post Godzilla figures and all laugh and have a good time because they spent a lot on a old one
Does not mean they shouldn’t try and release a tasteless sequence. And you didn’t even mention the weight and scale. When I see any other Monsterverse Movie, I see the vast amount of size the creatures take on the screen and in the battle, you can see how they stomp hard and hit even more so. Even in GKOTM where it gets a little much with Ghidorah dropping Godzilla from Space, you still see the absolute scale and strange beauty of seeing Titans in action. In GvK, you get weightless punches, shit action sequencing and even worse CGI. My other examples you can check are
I forgot where, but I know that Kong’s arm literally phases through a building during Godzilla fight.
When Kong falls down from Axe Slam, you can still see him on the ground. When Godzilla falls down, his model vanishes. You can see the building lights still on where his body should be.
After Godzilla and Mechagodzilla slam into eachother as the fight starts, Mechagodzilla reels back, but as the scene cuts to the next, Mechagodzilla does the same thing twice, even from another direction as if the film just rewined his movements.
When Kong body grapples on Mechagodzilla’s arm, he wraps his body behind his arm, which should have effectively locked Movement. However, after Kong kicks in MG’s head and replies by shooting Godzilla away with shoulder missiles, Mechagodzilla’s arm is suddenly behind Kong, which brings into question how the fuck is Kong even on MG at that point and just slams him down as if pointing out the problem.
Your points of reasoning all assume that Godzilla didn’t do this just so Kong could conveniently crawl all the way up to Earth and fight in this incredibly contrived plot.

Okay, so let us compare Godzilla’s actions here to Godzilla’s actions in GKOTM. Godzilla, when Supercharged after Rebirth Sequence, did NOT go after Behemoth, Scyrlla, MUTO, etc for being unruly despite canonically being on top for so long, and walked straight up to the threat of Ghidorah.
Now, in GvK, he literally senses Ghidorah again. It is for all he knows, Ghidorah being reborn to cause the 2019 event again and this time he has no Mothra and a even weaker Monarch with how stupidly splintered the organization is. Now he thinks this is the perfect time to give a shit about Kong finding a Axe? Get the fuck out of here. Utterly contrived.
Again, Godzilla shouldn’t be wasting his time against Kong in the first place. Using what we’ve seen of Godzilla previously, he is smart enough to realize the real issue and ignore the other. But this film decides that Godzilla is a racist, pride hungry beast that likes to blast apart the planet he is literally linked to (Dominion Comic), and ignore the Ghidorah signal which is already it’s own can of worms.

Okay, compare time again. If Godzilla truly wasn’t evil in this movie, then why didn’t he do the same thing in 2019? Godzilla was literally giving warning signals to Castle Bravo and acting like a actual protector, reluctant to fight the non intended target but will defend himself. Then he storms off trying to find the issue until Ghidorah is freed.
Then in GvK, he suddenly becomes the aggressor, attacking the facility which while yes in the narrative are the bad guys, Monarch doesn’t know that, the Public doesn’t know that, and yet Godzilla does not give warning, he just storms in there. Yea yea, Apex struck first and whatever but come on man, you have to see the difference in characterization here.
