Stagger your attacks, pull back enough to lunge to make it very difficult to parry, strafe and flank, there are ways around this. Only someone that is particularly good with the knife should stand some semblance of a chance and if they are able to beat you down low, fall back. There’s no sense in pushing a fight you are losing against one guy and throwing the game for yourself because you allow your pride to get in your own way.
Hand to hand combat predator gets beat.
Get a 5ft scaffolding bar and start swinging it like you’re attacking someone, then tell me you can’t see how easily you could not only party an attack like that but also counter with a strike.
You’re all talking about real world physics and mechanics but clearly have never done martial arts or had any sort of military experience.
When you parry the Predators wristblade or combistick attack, it throws you back and you are stunned for a second so a combo attack isn’t affected by one simple parry.
I’m done trying to explain this. Either get good with your melee techniques or find another game🤣
Give that same scaffolding bar to a big intergalactic alien hunter who does this for a living and you’ll get a different result. Trying to counter that is going hurt more than countering a couple of small blades. The Combi Stick and War Club are big weapons that pack a punch, so even if you do manage to block a direct hit or you don’t get sliced by their blades, it’s going to hurt a lot more due to the size of the weapon and insane strength and speed of the wielder.
Have you played FT and parried a combistick??? It throws your character back 5ft and you’re stunned for 2-3secs holding your knife up.
As the legendary uk_spawn once said GET GURD SCRUBZ
I have. DO you know who also get’s stunned for that same length of time, the Predator.
It does? It didn’t feel like it did. Maybe I was just too focused on trying to not go down that I didn’t pay attention to it.
Yeah, you always have time to parry the next hit.
That was my point. Don’t make it about cannon or non cannon cause that makes no sense. But also the balance for the majority as I have said so many times is use team work to beat it. As a team you have more than enough firepower to kill it. Parry is a crutch for players who wanna run around and kill the entire atmosphere of “you are being hunted”. If you disagree, awesome, that’s fine, but I’ve played more Fireteam hours than I’d care to tell and I have been scared 0 times since I learned how to parry.
well i just had a guy trying to rely too much on the knife/parry, he got a close range bow shot to the face…
Yeah and did he stab half your health away while you did that? And was his whole team shooting you for your troubles? That’s not an optimal team If you are standing on the ground close range shooting them.
NO he was yolo rambo…
Yeah if there is a good team sure, but any good team i face dont even let you get into melee range so the knife is mute anyway.
I just don’t see how this is even genuinely a polarizing topic. Half, HALF of the predators arsenal is rendered useless to someone who is good at parrying, and it forces you to play a certain way if you’d like to survive. Not win, survive. Yes, we have all played mongoloid FTs where you just wipe them, but a good team will make you play exactly the way they want you to, which is range. And god forbid you did not bring a bow or a range set up and you get stuck in the trees shooting plasma caster and getting wayyy more damage done to you than you are getting on them per exchange. No game should have its options limited like this. Also, imagine playing another asymmetrical game, and having 1v1 being so prominent. Ok, I hear you say “well it should be possible to 1v1 the power role if you are good enough skill should matter” yes I agree. But this is not a now and then occurrence. I see preds get 1v1 allllll the time. Once, ONCE I saw a Maggie kill a Goliath 1v1 in evolve (I mean it was not full health but it had a decent amount left when they started fighting) and I was BAFFLED it was so cool. Killing the predator 1v1 in this game is literally child’s play. Teamwork is recommended not required. But the big headed people who win there games just love soaking up “BUT I STILL WIN SO ITS NOT BROKEN YOU JUST NEED TO GET BETTER” no no no. Make no mistake, we win our games too. We just don’t like the way we HAVE to do it. And that’s my piece.
iv never been beat 1v1
Anecdotal
Your personal experience does not mean it does not happen. That’s like, obvious lol. We can make a topic, how many people have seen or been part of a 1v1 to get a statistic. I promise it’s very high
Yeah totally anecdotal. and im sure there are thousands who been beat 1v1 and then learn from that. if you getting beat 1v1 then ya doing something wrong…
But then you said about “other team shooting you down”
Thats not 1v1 , thats 1v1 knife fight while 3 others shoot you… thats the mistake.
so are we refering and speaking heere about actual 1v1 or 1v1 with the team shooting you?
Nice attempt at twisting what I’m saying. Lol. You said, a guy ran at you with a knife and was parry happy so you shot him. You didint say it was 1v1 so I didint assume it we were just talking about parrying. Then I brought up that it allows for 1v1 nice try though
But yes. This is the only asymmetrical game I’ve ever played with the, 1v Team set up, where 1v1 is so prominent. In 2010 AVP you could 1v1 but it was balance around 4v4v4 so it made total sense. Here not so much. Yes the game would get waaaay more punishing for derping around and not using team work. But that’s probably how it should be. Make team work a must. Also I’m not saying due away with parry immediately I’m open to ideas for change, but claiming it needs no change at all is just baffling. I’ve played waaaaay more FT than predator and I promise playing FT is not in the least bit nerve racking when you know the predator has to be atleast 30 meters away to attempt hurting you.
I gave an idea over in the parrying thread. But I came up with a slightly better one. Wristblades are parry as it is now, both parties are stunned. Disc and stick don’t stun you, but you lose your combo, keeping you at the weakest hit, the first. sword and club allow you to continue the combo, and get a hit in while they are stunned. Anything to make melee viable, but keeping the zerk rush from becoming op.
