Mythbusters Predator Edition: Cloaking challenge!

These are the settings we used:

There’s our confirmation. It’s ridiculous that the fact the settings can be manipulated so much to basically turn it down to alpha build. Can’t blame the ppl who want to turn off cross play which also screws me since I play on pc as well.

Sad people do this to give them an edge instead of learning to play and developing strategy and tactics…

Ive seen this video before, I am pretty sure they are also tinkering with the shaders/textures with an external program to get the “potato affect.”

I swore the version I saw they even said something about “we haven’t even changed the shaders yet” but I could be mistaken or thinking of a different video.

Nvidia graphics cards can be manipulated like crazy with the settings program that comes with the driver…

I wouldn’t put it past some of these shitheads these days…

We kind of tried this, but I had also heard that if you cursor over a cloaked Predator, they will get the red outline you see on AI.

I could not get the red outline to happen, and I didn’t think to hit the spot key after we tested that.

First video, mainly trying to get the red outline.

Have you tried aiming down sights to get it?

Not specifically, but I do use the sights in second video a little. Hopefully it would be enough to get the red affect. How do you get it for AI? It seems to appear for pigs without having to do anything specific.

Second video, moving and still in a tree:

Not entirely sure on that since I’ve played exclusively pred since launch. Been curious of the visual settings theory that the pc side of players use to their advantage.

You hover over the AI for a few seconds using the scope and it functions like a spot, without having to hit the spot button. I’d assume you would have to do the same for the pred.

In that case I feel confident that we attempted this adequately, and did not get the red outline when Predator is cloaked.

So I am confident that the devs ensured fair gameplay if you use their base settings. This is assholes manipulating their graphics cards through external means to be able to see everything

With this I would agree. It seems as if the devs made a pretty good attempt to keep it fair from a graphical settings standpoint.

Agreed, so they need to write in a patch that locks graphics cards at a minimum setting. So you can’t use the Nvidia control panel or the like, shouldn’t be hard to force basic settings level through a patch.

Several games have code written in that forces the graphics card to use application settings

I don’t think you can even do that, as the equipment owner pretty much has rights/control over everything that is not explicitly the game itself.

Which is why a lot of these folks go after the DX shaders and such. That all happens at the end, so the game itself never really even knows it is being manipulated.

At least this is how I understand some of these things to work.

I have several games where it forces the graphics card to use application settings. You can make all the adjustments you want, but it won’t change shit past the base game settings.

I’m sure people have found a workaround to it though.

Another thing I should mention is that not everything seemed to kick in when changing the settings until a new match was started. Smoke was the one we noticed that did not seem to get applied immediately.

So the tests shown were all done in matches loaded after a match in which the graphical settings were changed.
