News about Prey 2022

I don’t.
Mandalore all over again.

Maybe. Star wars had enough depth in the OG 6 to not need that. Pred barely had 2 movies that were interconnected by 5 lines of dialogue. (Keyes explanation)

Fundamentally, it’s just an 80’s dragonslayer premise. Which is a lot of the reason it doesn’t work now - but it worked back then.

and normies don’t like ugly aliens period, so a pred focused plot is out of the question.
you will get Avatar 2 and you will like it.

Those blue fucks are unironically uglier to look at then the average Pred.

I agree; it worked back then. Tough to make it work for new youth. I’d watch it. I love 80s movies.

District 9’s never getting a sequel either until they make them orange people with pointy ears.

I mean I didn’t give a shit about that film anyway.

But anyway, the morality of the Preds has NEVER been an issue for people to like ya know, actually get behind them & enjoy them. The Saiyans are an objectively WORSE society & people and they’re one of the most beloved in all of Sci-Fi regardless of the fact they ran an actual Empire which enslaved other Sentient races, if they didn’t outright EAT them on the spot or blow up their planets.

Getting a showcase of their society in the canon would be something fantastic imho

anyway, seeing the movies the yautja lose for mainly two reasons:
1- their adversary doesn’t give a shit about honor and got upper hand (Harrigan in P2 and Grid in AvP)
2 - they got super cocky and take their time to enjoy the final blow/play thinking the fight is over

the second point happens basically with every Pred except Scar and Wolf (and they are probably the most cold and practical)

said this, I don’t think this means that they don’t value their own life at all, but for me they do value it in a totally different way than us:
let’s remember when City was holding to Harrigan in the balcony, before his arm is cut, he was ready to BLOW UP,
and he was still able to fight. But he decided to kill himself for the “failure”.

The way the value other lifes is a different matter,
but seeing City not killing the pregnant (but armed) lady, and Scar not killing Weyland immediately because he was sick, I do believe the honor code is real and kicking,
but that’s another long topic that it’s better not to touch here.

no one watches DBZ for the worldbuilding, most of the movies arent even canon. they watch it because it came on sporadically at night on cartoon network & founded power level wanking. Its THE action cartoon.

Well that’s just… wrong. But I suppose few actually care about world building & thematics around these parts.

I still think Saiyans are more interesting because the van articulate their motivations and their actions make sense. Preds are like mutes in movies. You hardly know anything about them.

Meant to rely to @SomeknowmeasXeno

you’re going to summon the Google Translate Upgrade Predator to this thread.

I mean, they kind of just go “Your porn addiction is strong? Lemme fight it!” and then proceed to scream racial obscenities at me.

Makes for a very one dimensional story. That’s why every sequel is so-so at best. It’s the same thing in a different settings

I don’t watch DB but i saw a few clips. There a lot of dialogue there

But really, all they really need to do is to make a “Kaili” Series about Alpha and his rise to rebellion and forming the Yautja society. It would basically be Spartacus but without the word “c**k” every 30 seconds and random sex.

The original story, from the very first Arc all the way up until Buu dealt in a variety of themes which had a breath of nuance & depth to them. The popular misconception of what DB actually is in the mainstream these days can be attributed to two things.

Abridged.
Heroes.

Those two things have sullied a lot of talk around the actual depth & thematics of the original story and it makes it hard to have an honest discussion about what the series actually was & had to say.

DB is not “Buff Dudes scream at each other & throw punches” that’s merely the action, and even then a very broad & distilled notebook version of said action. What DB was, was a story about being Human. And all the troubles that come with that. The original Manga was Goku’s story of being Human, even despite the later revelation of not biologically being one. Its about growing up, making friends, discovering yourself & making improvements to who you are: both physically & mentally. Its about starting a family, growing old & dealing with the consequences of what might happen to those around you when the day comes that you pass away.

Its a very humanist, self-improvement focused narrative but hey we can’t have that discussion these days because nobody engages with the media they consume. Its sad and I could go on for a good few hours about it and many other things but this isn’t the thread for that.

My original point was if people can get behind Saiyan-narratives, and DBS Broly REALLY proves they can, then people can get behind Yautja-narratives because the Saiyans are a worse people and that doesn’t stop anybody from ya know: actually enjoying content based around them & their society.
