Dude , you are trying way too hard to be correct about it . It is meant to shoot his gun , I didn’t write it , I didn’t say its a perfect movie .
But the fact still is , he wasn’t meant to be shot directly by it

The plasma burst passes straight through the gun and that causes it to lose most of it’s energy. You can still see a wound on Dutch where the remainder hit him knocking him off his feet. Remember this is the original movie, they clearly intended the weapon to work this way. There is only evidence of very short range splash damage in the movie, most damage is very localised. Any comic set before it or any sequel movie where the caster is different is where the problems lie.

I was always under the impression that they had the ability to adjust its strength? When poncho gets blasted it is a small shot , instead of blowing his head clean off
i could accept this if there was an indication that the plasma was charged but there is no evidence that supports that throughout the film so really every shot is just the same, this is not PHG lol
Possibly but James Cameron thinks they just weren’t gonna explode a dudes entire head. Probably due to cost and difficulty of making it look real. Everyone is severely over thinking this stuff. Movies are full of inconsistencies. Best not to focus on the ones that don’t actually matter.

the only thing that can determine a charge is the damage the caster does after but there is not 1 indication the plasma is charged it is just shot whenever and however the Pred wishes, if maybe it showed the Pred charging caster i could buy it but assumin this is what happens because we now have PHG is funny to hear
I mean they exploded a dude’s whole chest no problem and had another get his spinal cord & skull ripped clean out.
