Revisiting PC low graphics Aug 2021

I believe hdmi 2.1 is capable of 120fps at 4k.

https://youtu.be/oXf2YB6vnuE Check this out! Lemme know what y’all think!

I can probably find a video file somewhere on the internet, but unless you watch it on a high refresh rate monitor, you won’t see the difference.

I don’t think there is any video streaming service that supports over 60fps

Only way would be capturing and uploading a video to google drive or something so you can watch, and again, I must emphasize, unless you have a 120Hz display with a device capable of pushing those 120Hz, you won’t see any difference. You can’t see 120 frames in a 60Hz display. It is electronically impossible. The same if your device cannot register over 60Hz on its display output

Yea YouTube is not a reliable source for video or sound comparisons because they have a 60fps cap and only 2.1 sound.

I found a website tho where you can find a whole library of surround sound video files you can download to test your headset or speakers.

I actually learned something from this thread. Unbelievable šŸ˜‚

If you don’t want to sit 30 minutes to watch linus experiment, here’s one of the final results and judge for yourself if going over 60 helps or not

Even the iPhone is 60hz, so I would literally have to go to a store to see the ā€œdifference.ā€

You really don’t have to as you have already created a bias in your mind.

Just keep believing that there really isn’t any significant difference.

At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you’re happy with what you have.

I am happy enough with 144hz that I don’t feel the need to upgrade to 240hz. I think for me it wouldn’t make a difference.

It is, at any res if you have capable HW.

Is it because we’re getting closer to the truth?

Yea, the truth that the higher the fps the better you can perform. There is no arguing that. I take it from the pros, not just any casual player who never even has experienced gaming at high fps.

You can consider it mathematically.

30 FPS 1 frame every 33 milliseconds

60 FPS 1 frame every 16 milliseconds

120 FPS 1 frame every 8 milliseconds

240 FPS 1 frame every 4 milliseconds

Human reaction time
Fastest possible 150 milliseconds

Fast 200 milliseconds

Average 250 milliseconds

For a reaction time of 200 milliseconds
30 to 60 FPS would increase reaction time ~7.2%

60 to 120 FPS would increase reaction time ~3.9%

120 to 240 FPS would increase reaction time ~2.1%

šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Decreasing and minimal returns, but if every little edge is important to you, there it is.

I suppose it’s just another reason to use standardized systems like a console as an equalizer, but there’s probably way too much money to be made selling ā€œgaming rigsā€ to people desperate for an advantage.

Aren’t you the one who spends a lot of time testing simple stuff about the game like how much more damage a certain spec does?

Yes. I’ve shared this information freely to improve everybody. I’m not just trying to get an advantage. I’m trying to make a confusing and complicated game more accessible for new players and players that don’t have time to figure out these values.

From what I’ve heard, and what I’m seeing here, it’ll only add a minuscule advantage to being able to notice the Predator. Like, hardly noticeable. I’d still play on high settings, easier to see rendered things instead of a block of pixels. Looks like a PS3 game on low settings

What I’m trying to get at is that if you tell me that let’s say Yautja Bane increases damage by 10% because you already tested it over and over, I wouldn’t argue with you. Now, you are trying to discredit the pros (linus, shroud, etc…) on their findings. They used top of the line technology to test this theory and they have concluded that yes having higher fps can significantly improve your gaming performance.

So, why do you insist in trying to discredit them, when you haven’t even experienced gaming at high fps. You’re merely going by your biased opinion and simple logic without actually taking all factors into consideration and testing them yourself in the way they did.

@Derangedxeno_02 we’re no longer talking about image quality, but rather how fps affects your gaming performance.

Hm. I see. Well, from being locked at 30 and dipping several times on launch PS4, I can say my performance is not peak, especially when they drop only slightly. I find myself missing often and even failing to react in time due to frame drops. I’m quick, you’ve seen that, but when I make mistakes, I know I fucked up. However, if I’m trying to pop a mask off during a firefight, the chances of me doing that are very low, almost none.

For reference, I had the fortune of playing this game on a friend’s PC and my sniping game was improved significantly, I felt like I could aim with such a smooth precision, I hardly missed. Going back to PS4, I noticed a laughable decrease in frames and an embarrassing drop in my skill and ability to hit sharp shots. But that’s just my experience in it. Others may differ and I’m not gonna challenge it.
