Samurai predator is dogshit. Change my mind lol

Could be he inspired both.

Because predator fits the honorable warrior type a little more than the assassin.

No samurai has more melee dmg than hunter.

That would make sense why they gave him a Katana witch is a Ninjas weapon as Most Samurai uses a Nodachi witch is pretty much the same thing only much thicker blade its two handed and its WAYYYY longer of a blade

Comes down to want to be faster go hunter… want to chew on bullets go samurai.

Test vs 2 dutches 70 degree arc… 4 hits with secondary attack downs both of them… with aks took half hp bar

I only say that cause they seem the obvious choices everyone would be happy with. Samurai seems to be polarizing at best

Prefacing: I’m a huge Predator fan. So while my Opinions will sway in Hunting Grounds’ favor a bit, I also get Criticisms (of the constructive side) and always try to hear People out.

I could see what you’re saying @BadRed7 . Upon first glance, I was thinking Maaaaan… I wish it’s design resembled the Hot Toys Collectible that came out a while back. The Mask also looked a little weird, but I’m referencing the incredible Hot Toys Collectible too much. I then go into the Customization Options and start to get a feel for how things look with Shaders. It’s not too bad actually. I’m rockin’ the Silver Shader with Red Trim (sorry, not in front of the Game as I type this). It’s sharp!!

So I dive into a Private Match since Queue Times are absurd with everyone wanting to try out our brand new Toy. I immediately start swinging the Katana around and it felt too rigid and stiff. Samurais were all about deliberate Strikes and Swings, so perhaps that’s by design. Anyway, I run into some AI Grunts and start hacking away. I’m not gonna lie… some of the Stealth Kills and Death Blows are actually very cool. Not only do you see Limbs fly everywhere but his Stealth Kill, namely the one from Behind an Enemy, is pretty badass: The Samurai jabs the Sword through the Chest, quickly decapitates them and then kicks the Body aside. Nice.

Damage wise, the Katana is definitely going to get a nerf of sorts. I’m a Predator Main who swears by the Net Gun for disarming before I go in and engage. Using the Katana, I didn’t even bother switching to it because the Katana’s Lunge Attack/Left Trigger (PS4 Player here) has some serious Range and pairs incredibly well when followed by two Light/Right Trigger Attacks. I’m very sure it does bleed/tick Damage like the Net Gun. I had to slow myself down because I would have killed all four Fireteam Members quickly. It’s a… little too effective LOL

And as far as overall movement goes for our new Predator goes, he feels as if a Berserker went to Japan, robbed a few Museums of Historical Samurai Gear and then went on a Diet of Sushi for 6 Months. The Samurai feels like a Berserker/Hunter Hybrid. He has the Health and Melee prowess of a Berserker, eats through Stamina like a Berserker, all with Movement Traits of a Hunter. I had to pop in Adrenal Rush (along with Large Pouch and Impenetrable) since the Katana’s Heavy Lunge takes a good 1/4th of your Stamina Bar. I’m guessing Illfonic wanted a more methodical, in-your-Face Melee approach here. And I think it works very well.

So yes, as a Predator Fan, I’m really loving the Samurai.

However, a lot of People will look beyond the Samurai sheen and complain that this is just a well dressed Berzerker. That’s partially true. You can say the same about the Elder where he’s a Hunter reskin. You can go further than that and complain that the Jungle Hunter is a reskin of the regular Hunter. Many will groan about that, and I get it. But keep in mind that Illfonic is trying some cool things here and the Samurai is definitely a very cool addition. Each Predator can fit particular Playstyles, and even moreso with all of the Perks at your disposal. I was having a very hard time adapting to the Predator at first; I was dying left and right. It wasn’t until the Berserker unlocked for me when I started to realize how to properly engage as a Predator. Upon starting Hunting Grounds, I’d say I had like a 35% success rate. Now?? I’d gage a solid 90%. You just have to find what works for you.

So outside of the Samurai Predator being very cool (and moreso for fans) along with some interesting and recent Updates that came with the Elder, Hunting Grounds is in a fairly decent spot overall. However Matchmaking Queue Times really need to be addressed (perhaps with a Server Patch of sorts) because 10+ Minute Queue Times are ridiculous. You know it’s a problem when Matches go by quicker than overall Waiting Times. There’s a few subtle Balance Passes that should be done, like Parry Windows, that damned slow as Molasses Minigun Walk Speed and Specific Character Class tweaks (like the Support Class having a faster Minigun Walk Speed, etc.).

With all of that said, the Samurai Predator is very cool, even if it’s not for everyone. And the Game really isn’t in such a bad place that everyone claims it is. Give it time and I’m sure Hunting Grounds will improve. Lastly, look at how Friday the 13th eventually got new Maps along with smaller Variations of Packanack and Crystal Lake, on top of Single Player Challenges and that pretty awesome Virtual Cabin. It’ll be interesting to see what’s added down the road.

@BadRed7 Its not dogshit… u just think that u can swing ur sword while 4 FT are shooting

According to stats, seems inferior to every other predator. Less speed, less stamina and slightly better health than Hunter.

@BadRed7 Lol wow. Brand new DLC and someone thought it was p2w. Get good kid and use some tactics instead of swinging your shiny new sword.

Y’all retards actually think I bought this pos dlc?
@EndlessDespair @ScarPredator

The fact that y’all are bitching about being mowed down by a sword shows how broken it is and it just came out today lol

I have yet to actually be downed by the sword lol, much less seen a team mowed down by it. Seems like wristblades do more consistent damage.

That wasn’t my point

@BadRed7 If u did not buy it and play it then why are u mad

Haha. I’ll take that as a compliment. :D

Nah, seems like every time I come up against a pred it’s a japanese player on the other end. Japanese people absofarkinglootely love this game. So I’m not surprised they wanted to create something for the japanese market.
