For the glory of satan?
This Game isn’t Canon!
Yes pleeeease
What…
I have to disagree with those three categories, substituting these three instead, which is also more in line with the debate here.
-
Official Cannon. This is what the owners of the franchise have given their personal stamp of approval. This is generally the original source material and any continuation on the same media (In this case movies), but it can include anything the owners desire. Using Star Wars as an example, Clones Wars, Rebels, and The Madolorian are canon, as are several books and comics published under the reign of the Mouse.
-
Licensed Canon. These are third party creations, almost exclusively outside the source media, that the owners of the franchise allowed to be made. Generally these are considered canon by the fans as well, as they have the important role of filling in space between official canon and as long as they don’t contradict official canon. Using pre Disney Star Wars (Because I don’t know enough about disney Star Wars to judge here) Battlefront 2’s campaign fall in here, as it gave more personality to the clones turned stormtroopers, at least until Clone Wars came out.
-
Old Canon. Here is where the retcons exist. Maybe the company changed hands, or a bad idea was removed, or new material overwrites it. Here lies all the Space Jockey and Pilot lore now that the Engineers are here. All the lore Disney dumped to make their own poor quality Star Wars. These are only canon in our hearts if we want them to be.
There is an important distinction in these categories. Using the Female Yautja example, they were only seen in the Licensed canon level. Without official approval, whatever each individual writer decided to do, they did. Thats whey in some comics the females were more lithe that P:HG and in others, they were massive unstoppable hulks, and others made them in between. And there in lies the issues coming from that level, is that each person has their own head canon as to which parts they fit in with the Official, and which parts they don’t, because not all of them can fit together in a cohesive lore.
Now with this all in mind, this game is 2, with the contradictory lore against The Predator just being creative liberties on Illfonic’s part, and to be ignored when working on how to fit it in with the Official.
However, I heard, along with many others, that Fox told Illfonic that this game is Canon. If that’s the case, then the contradictory stuff with The Predator might mean that its those certain parts of The Predator’s lore being relegated to 3, because this game is 1, and its retconning out some of The Predator.
Continuity isn’t a plot summary of a film even if the first 2 sequels thought it was. The audience doesn’t need a play by play of prior events for something to have taken place in the same universe. So when Dutch’s logs talk about how much Stargazer fucked up in 2018, he is referencing The Predator like it or not. Sure they don’t mention the autism bit but nobody needed to tell you that Jungle Hunter killed Billy Sole to know that he dies during Predator. At best you can ignore it and move on as all other long running franchises do. It’s like an editors note where you can look into it if you want to, but it’s not required.
And frankly you can ignore any film you dislike in this franchise as none of them barring the crossovers ever had a direct sequel. If you dislike Predator 2 you can pretend it didn’t happen because any film in this franchise’s events typically aren’t needed to know what’s going on. Not bringing up the autism thing (and why would it be relevant to any of the logs?) is fine because you don’t need to know that detail to know The Predator happened.
Canon equals corporatized brainwashing (i.e. Star Wars: New Trilogy). It’s not like we are picking which gospels to put in the Bible here.
BTW check out the gospel of Thomas if your into that sort of thing, it was excluded from the New Testament but is an excellent piece of literature discovered hidden in an Egyptian cave, dates back to 200 AD.
‘Split a log and you shall find me, lift a stone and I am there.’
Am I thinking the right one?
Thats the one! Also, Jesus said: If your leaders say to you 'Look! The Kingdom is in the heavens!" Then the birds will be there before you are. If they say that the Kingdom is in the sea, then the fish will be there before you are. Rather, the Kingdom is within you and it is outside of you.
The writing to which you refer is spurious and was composed by a member of a gnostic sect, probably in the late second century, which explains why it’s not in the Bible. It was discovered, along with many other writings, in 1946 near the village of Nag Hammadi in Egypt. Our version comes to us in Coptic, but there seems to have been a Greek original behind it.
The so-called Gospel of Thomas really isn’t a Gospel at all, but a collection of 114 sayings or logia attributed to Jesus. Approximately one-fourth of these sayings are the same as those found in the canonical Gospels. Of the remainder, some are very similar to those in our Gospels, but have been adapted for gnostic purposes. Others are completely gnostic in origin and form.
While the Gospel of Thomas purports to have been written by the apostle, there’s nothing to support this, and there’s a great deal that argues against it. To mention only one example (and this example applies to gnostic writings in general), the milieu is all wrong. The peculiar sayings attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas are, for the most part, light-years away from the kind of thing a Jewish rabbi would have said in the Palestine of A.D. 30. Contrast this with the very Jewish flavor of Jesus’ words found in the canonical Gospels.
For this reason alone, we’re forced to conclude that the Gospel of Thomas doesn’t compare with the canonical Gospels when it comes to telling us what Jesus really taught.
What’s so spurious about a Gnostic sect? Early Christianity had many influences, including Gnostic ideas about the Hebrew God. Many such contentions about an all good and forgiving father God are present in the NT if you compare it with OT. Many early Church fathers were later condemned for their ideas (Origin and the pre-existence of souls) by ecclesiastic authorities.
As for its authorship, none can be sure. But it was a part of a living Christian tradition that was later misrepresented and suppressed. Modern Gnostic apologists such as Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell and Dr Stephen Hoeller would argue that the presence of the Spirit is what authenticates a community. "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
But your trying to interpret Holy Texts by using your background, culture and understanding of things that are above mortals, thus why God established a Church which Universally teaches his divinity to the masses and only they could understand because he promised only to be with them not some guy who buys a bible at a 99 who didn’t take theology or anything with religion because they think they understand which even scripture states anyone who does damn themselves and others who do not teach what the church has taught
I respect the established Churches, both Roman and Eastern. They were entrusted with the sacramental tools laid down by Jesus. But you can also say that God did intend for these texts to be discovered again, and used, for our times by modern Christian communities. The entire Nag Hammadhi collection is available for free at gnosis.org. It really is a fascinating collection of texts, no matter your beliefs.
So you would rather hears lies then sacred truths? That’s not respect that’s disregard of the teachings of the creator who intended all of humanity to be saved through his church, that’s like saying I went to school for a profession but because I read a opinionated article it dissuaded me to continue my studies and apply without the proper credentials which by the way they won’t hire you because it’s the requirement
I see your point but I would play the part of the prodigal son, I guess. At any rate, in my own search I have found wisdom in many different traditions, each claiming divine inspiration. It seems the golden rule is universal, except if you can get away with it with a good lawyer lol.
Then let me be a sign that our Creator sent me to you because according to Vatican II one of the councils it dose state that there are fragments of some truth in other Religions but it is our church which contains the whole truth and there is no salvation outside of it, let Steve Ray a convert talk about it by using a parable since we are on the topic of prodigal son
How’d a conversation about this game being canon turn into a religious debate?
Canons
Let’s stick to predator canon please. The whole Bible thing is just as convoluted and tainted with pastiche as it is.
Ah, the OP is a religious loon. This now explains his obsession with the minutia of a fictional creation.
Well, they’re both as true as eachother i suppose.
