Ridiculous spotting video

This was a bit much. Granted I technically won because I kept them busy, it really was retarded. Some really questionable spotting. Some of them really surprised me, granted some I can understand from blood spurts later in the round. Maybe even some where they saw me maneuver into position (more on that below). But the rest were clearly just spamming the button.

I don’t know if I would argue it needs to be eliminated, but in its current state two things are clear.

1. As is, spotting really is a trash mechanic. It needs to be fixed.
2. Predator stealth (noise levels and cloak effectiveness) really need to be looked at.

Looking to have a rational discussion on solutions.

Oh and side note: working hard to get two downs and kills then having them magically brought back to life aggregates the piss out of me. If just rewards bad playing and takes away any real stakes for FT.

I mean I get why it exists and fundamentally I don’t disagree with it. But being able to look at places, spam the button, and uncover a totally invisible predator is broken.

Yea agreed, i read someone’s idea on here to make it only highlight the direction of the predator instead of highlighting the predator himself, would make it a lot more like in the movie with fireteam firing into the trees trying to hit something in a general direction

I agree the idea of the spotting mechanic is fine, and helps with communication. I would just either limit it to just the eye ball, put a ~10 second cool down on it, or have it not work on 100% invisible Predators.

I run on pc and while I potato on most graphics, I have my shadows on medium to avoid any possible exploitation that might entail as others have suggested.

However I can explain to you why most PC players can so easily abuse spotting. Ironically I dont think spotting in the game is the issue. Its the fact that as pred you cant even get close to a PC player without giving away your location. I will try to explain to you some counters to pc players as pred though as well.

First, how do I find pred as FT

-Headphones. I know it sounds simple but the clicking that pred makes is so damn clear at almost any time, that I can not only tell which direction its from, but also how far away he is.

-M+KB I think this one is a given but playing on M+KB means we have a much easier time scanning the environment, and especially the trees.

-Screens. PC players play on a screen in most cases, that is inches from their face. PS4 players are likely playing on a TV across their living room in most cases. This means that PC players have a lot less trouble spotting predator when hes in the trees, even if hes on the other side of the map…

-Low graphics. Assuming the rumors are true, PC players can abuse the graphics to do two things. Low effects means smoke grenades dont work at all. The smoke doesnt appear for us. Low shadows means you are never truly invis as pred.

-Blood. If you are injured as pred, and you are bleeding, A pc player is gonna spray the air above the blood stain to make sure you arent standing still invis. Sometimes this blood can be seen through the roof of buildings

-and with all of those, comes spotting. Spammed on you every time you make a move.

So bearing all of that in mind, how can you counter this as predator?

1. Use cloak sparingly. You only make clicky noises when you are cloaked. Otherwise pred shuts the fuck up. This means that the only audio you will be making while you are in the trees, is whatever movement you are doing.
2. Move slowly, or not at all. If you are in the trees above the fireteam, crouch on the branch, stand still, observe. dont make any noise. wait for them to pass, then start moving.
3. Mobility. The exact opposite. If shit hits the fan, turn on your cloak and start hopping all around eratically. Even hopping back over the fireteam behind them and running the other way. This will throw them off.
4. Standing still cloaked. It wont work on all fireteams, but as long as they dont get a hitmarker spraying at you, it will fool most of them. Just make sure you arent bleeding, and you dont do it a lot.

Basically, the issue is that anyone with headphones will always know where pred is, and his cloak not being very effective, does not help that at all. If he could even just crouch walk with the cloak staying full invis, it would be a significate difference I think.

Some of that is false, just low graphics settings will not negate the times when Predator should be 100% invisible (when remaining still for a few seconds).

Anyone who claims to be able to see a Predator who is cloaked and standing still is either: bullshitting, bugged, or busted.

We see a lot of conflicting information in regards to the predator cloak. Is the Predator invisible when cloaked and standing still? How about when crouching? Likewise, Good job on proving it false. Bump your posts more often, so people read them more often. Way too many people still think the graphics are an issue. The only thing that they are an issue with right now is smoke grenades. smoke grenades dont have any smoke effects with the effects set to low.

Spotting just negates Pred’s camo tech because even when cloaked FT can still spot you when your moving or even when your standing completely still sometimes.

So what i’m trying to say is Pred’s camo tech because of spotting is only in the game for looks and basically has no purpose because FT can still see you regardless.

I’m pretty sure that nerfing spotting does nothing against good teams that can just communicate through discord but does succeed in buffing pred pub stomping, which is a bad thing? Does anyone disagree with this ? Just interested.

Stealth

• Cloak should make predator completely invisible in all of these scenarios
  1. Standing still
  2. Crouch walking
  3. Crouch walking on branches
  4. Jumping from one branch to another
  • (this carries over whatever invisibility he had before jumping to the next branch, for example, crouched jump from branch to branch, remains fully invisible, however running jump from branch to branch, is more visible.)
• Cloak should be more visible in all of these scenarios
  1. Normal running
  2. Sprinting
  3. Leaping
  4. Jumping
  5. Immediately after shooting any ranged weapon from stealth (This should make pred more visible for several seconds.) (Except the bow)
  6. When being shot
• Predator should not make footstep noise in any of these scenarios
  1. When on a tree branch
  2. When leaping or jumping from branch to branch
  3. when crouch walking
• Predator Footstep noises should be replaced with very low level rustling of leaves, and creaking of wood in these scenarios (you should only be able to hear these when there is absolutely nothing happening, they should be droned out by even the sounds that your fireteam members make when sprinting)
  1. When walking normally on a tree branch
  2. when climbing trees
  3. When leaping from branch to branch (Small amounts of leaves should fall, rewarding keen eyes, but only briefly)
• Predator Should make footstep noise in any of these scenarios
  1. Walking normally
  2. Sprinting
  3. Jumping (Not leaping)
• Predator Clicking noises when cloaked, should echo, making it harder for fireteam members to determine the source, even if the predator is directly above them.
• Predator Mimicry menu, should also allow the predator player to disguise his name as one of the the fireteam members when talking in proximity chat. This would make for a more useful mimicry system, that works with both normal dialogue, but also can be used to bait out players in pubs.
• Predator should be able to directly Stealth kill a fireteam member. It should be a very lengthy animation, He should decloak during the end of it (think predators when mombasa is killed by the combistick from cloak, then the predator decloaks after raising him)
  • This should only be possible when predator is cloaked behind a FT member that is standing still.
  • Fireteam members must be standing still for 2 seconds before a stealth kill can be initiated. Predator must wait 5 seconds after a leap to initiate a stealth kill
  • Some sort of damage resist buff during the animation, as well as shortly afterwards, should be put into place to encourage taking the kill and simultaneously breaking up the fireteam as after this kill predator will be too strong to kill head on for a short time.
