Assault rifles test: Damage/DPS/Range

These are the results of my preliminary tests of assault rifles. Our method was to fire a single shot at a range determined by spotting an object for the predator to stand next to, after which we would end the match and look at total damage. We used a barebones recon and Viking predator to conduct the test, and firerate was estimated by firing 30-45 rounds, cutting the recorded video at 0.25 speed, and dividing [total rounds fired] by [video length in seconds divided by 4].

For our first 2 tests, we chose 0m for Max damage and 25m because that’s about average distance from the ground to predkour branches.

The Pitbull and QR-4 definitely under performed our expectations.

what does this mean? are you saying that these 0m could be anywhere from 0m to 100m- so long as you can hit him?

No. 0m is self explanatory. 25m was determined by spotting a wall 25m from the FT, and they hit the predator 1 time.

ok, so point blank range.

I added clarification to the distance measuring.

Interesting, not sure I understand the numbers displayed correctly, do you happen to have approximate damage from a clip? Some of the fire rates seem like they would change which are actually the best at the two ranges.

A bullet might do less damage but if you get to 8 rounds before another gun gets to 7, you might actually do more damage. Looking at the Pitbull, not that I use it much.

Damage from a “clip” can be found by multiplying single shot damage by number of rounds in the magazine.

Yes. I color coded the guns by DPS at different ranges. Green is 1st and 2nd. Yellow is 3rd and 4th. Orange is 5th and 6th. Finally, Red is last.

The dps on the pitbull just seems low, not sure why but thank you for the chart.

The OWLF rifle has a very low fire rate and falloff and does less damage than it looks.
On the contrary, the G-ROW does not look much different from the QR-4, but its high fire rate makes it a very powerful weapon at close range.

Yeah. I expected it to have at least 10% more damage than the GOSL. Maybe there is an issue with the numbers being displayed. I’ll test it again, counting the number of shots to second wind and see how that matches up to the other guns.

Based on these numbers, I think the firerate of the QR4 and G-ROW should be buffed 10%, and the damage drop off for the Pitbull should be removed, so it does 45 dmg at all ranges.

This would make every assault rifle viable, while keeping them unique and fit into particular niches.

A buff to merc would be good as that gun is impossible to aim, not customizable and unfun to use.

It already has the best DPS at 25m. That’s a strong quality.

How did you measure the DPS? Just wondering. Like how could you calculate it past whole percentages ie .28? I suck at math, just curious.

(Rounds per second) x (damage per hit) = (damage per second)

The merc is made and its good for console players from what I’ve seen. It has good accuracy with no aiming down the sights. I think that is why they made it. For me, as a PC player its useless. Hammerhead or GOSL all the way.

y’see for me it feels like it’s too easy to aim cause it literally has no recoil when your firing it downsights and i’ve never used the recoil reduction perk
i guess you just hate iron-sights?

i get the GOSLR but like the now that i know the Merc is just better than the hammer head in every situation seems like you just gotta get used to ironsights man

afterall it seems like a fine trade off for me if you want pre-nerf hammerhead stats then you gotta be ok with a naked gun

I am used to shooting the guns how its effectively. Shooting the merc at a moving target that is not hugging you its bad. I get it for console players, on PC with precise aiming? Nah… Up close anything works.
Also, the merc has less bullets, not just missing sights. No idea if the test even takes into account that merc has less bullets/clip.

Hammerhead has 10 more bullets, that is enough. They have almost the same damage and accuracy.

The hammerhead also has better sights. The only thing that makes it better is the hip firing accuracy. Its designed with console players in mind to shoot it from the hip.
